About the Role
Gourmet China on Tedder (Along Pty Ltd) is seeking an experienced and passionate Cook to join our kitchen team on a permanent full-time basis. Located on Tedder Avenue in Main Beach on the Gold Coast, Gourmet China on Tedder is a fully licensed restaurant specializing in authentic Chinese cuisine, offering a menu of Cantonese and Szechuan dishes.
As our business continues to grow, we are seeking a Cook to strengthen our kitchen team and assist in delivering a consistently high standard of lunch and dinner menu items.
Reporting to the Director, the Cook will be responsible for preparing and cooking a range of Chinese dishes while maintaining consistent food quality, presentation and food safety standards. The role will also assist with food preparation, stock management and maintaining an efficient kitchen operation during busy service periods.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook a wide range of lunch, dinner and banquet dishes in accordance with established recipes and presentation standards.
- Prepare and cook the restaurant’s range of Chinese stocks, sauces and marinades.
- Cook food using traditional Chinese techniques including wok stir-frying, deep-frying, steaming, braising, roasting, claypot and sizzling plate cookery, while maintaining consistency in quality and presentation.
- Portion, plate and present dishes to the restaurant’s quality and presentation standards, including shared-plate and banquet service.
- Ensure ingredients and prepared food items are fresh, properly stored and handled, including correct handling of live and fresh seafood.
- Accommodate dietary requirements and modify dishes for vegetarian,
gluten free and allergy-related requests.
- Assist with ordering, receiving and rotating stock from suppliers, ensuring inventory is properly managed and food wastage is minimised.
- Maintain cleanliness of kitchen workstations, woks, equipment and food preparation areas.
- Assist with food costing and portion control to support efficient kitchen operations.
- Train and support kitchen hands and junior kitchen staff in Chinese food preparation techniques and protected kitchen practices.
- Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure efficient service and maintain a high standard of customer satisfaction.
Skills & Experience Required
- Minimum 1+ years’ experience as a Cook in a busy restaurant.
- Experience preparing authentic Chinese cuisine, particularly Cantonese and/or Szechuan dishes, is highly regarded.
- Demonstrated wok cooking skills and knowledge of Chinese ingredients, sauces and cooking methods.
- Strong knowledge of food safety, hygiene and kitchen operations.
- Ability to work efficiently under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a team.
- Availability to work across a rotating roster including evenings, weekends and public holidays.
- Commitment to delivering high-quality food and customer satisfaction.
Desirable Qualifications
- AQF Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or above
