PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:

As a Field Ecologist, you will be conducting ecological field surveys, impact assessments and approvals advice that enables clients to secure timely environmental approvals while meeting biodiversity‑protection obligations.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

- Plan and deliver fit-for-purpose tree, flora and fauna field survey methodologies aligned with Commonwealth, State and local guidelines.
- Apply best-practice survey methods and deploy / collect equipment (e.g., camera traps, pitfall / Elliott traps, acoustic loggers, etc.).
- Undertake long-term ecological monitoring and data collection.
- Maintain data quality and field records.
- Convert field-survey data into decision-ready outputs, plans, spreadsheets and high-resolution GIS maps that accurately, precisely and coherently display species locations and impact zones, enabling clients and assessors to grasp key findings at a glance.
- Liaise with clients, landholders, regulators and internal teams.
- Provide project support, including planning, logistics, budgeting, scheduling, etc.
- Embed proactive risk management by completing HSE assessments before fieldwork and closing actions within 24 hours.
- Champion a zero-harm culture through visible safety leadership and mentoring.
- Maintain 100% accuracy and on-time submission of timesheets, expenses,



and equipment logs to support transparent project performance.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

- Bachelor’s degree with Honours in Zoology, Botany or closely related field (AQF Level 8 Min.)
- At least 3 years’ relevant post‑graduate experience in ecological consultancy.
- Proven experience leading terrestrial flora and fauna surveys.
- Current open driver’s licence and ability to obtain remote‑area 4WD certification within 6 months.
- Construction White Card (QLD), or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- First aid certificate, or ability to obtain within 6 months.
- Skilled membership (or eligibility) – Environment Institute of Australia & New Zealand (EIANZ).
- Knowledge of best-practice survey techniques, including EMSA, EPBC Act guidelines, State Government protocols and survey guidelines and local government planning scheme requirements.
- Proficiency with standard survey design and sampling methods; competency using GPS, data apps, and GIS (e.g., QGIS) for mapping/spatial analysis.
