Central West Orana Project

Cobra is part of a consortium including Acciona and Endeavour Energy who have been successful in securing a contract with EnergyCo to design, build, own and operate the first New South Wales Renewable Energy Zone, Central West Orana. The project covers an area of 20,000 sq kms. It will initially entail the deployment of 4.5GW of transmitted electricity, powering 1.8 million homes, which will grow to 6GW by 2038. The project includes 90 kilometres of 500kV transmission lines and 150 kilometres of 330kV transmission lines to connect several renewable energy generation facilities to the grid.

Key Responsibilities:

The First Class Welder is responsible for performing high-quality welding, fabrication, repair, and maintenance work on a variety of metal structures, equipment, and components.



The role requires the ability to interpret technical drawings, select appropriate welding methods, and ensure all work is completed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with quality standards and project specifications.

• Perform welding operations using various welding processes, including MIG, TIG, FCAW, and Stick welding.

• Fabricate, assemble, install, and repair metal structures, equipment, and components according to engineering drawings and specifications.

• Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, welding procedures, and work instructions.

• Prepare materials for welding by cutting, grinding, fitting, beveling, and cleaning metal surfaces.

• Inspect completed welds to ensure compliance with quality, dimensional, and safety requirements.

• Operate and maintain welding machines, hand tools, power tools, and fabrication equipment.

• Conduct repairs on damaged or worn components to restore functionality and structural integrity.

• Measure, mark, and align materials accurately for fabrication and assembly activities.

• Adhere to approved welding procedures, codes, and industry standards.

• Identify defects, inconsistencies, or material issues and report them to supervisors.

• Collaborate with supervisors, engineers,



and other trades personnel to achieve project objectives.

• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment at all times.

• Follow all company safety policies, permit systems, and risk management procedures.

• Participate in toolbox meetings, safety inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives.

• Assist in training and mentoring apprentice or less experienced welders when required.

Minimum Requirements:

- Trade qualification or certification as a Welder.

- Proven experience in structural, fabrication, maintenance, or industrial welding environments.

- Demonstrated proficiency in multiple welding techniques and processes.

- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and welding symbols.

- Strong knowledge of welding codes, standards, and quality requirements.

- Experience working with carbon steel, stainless steel, and other alloy materials.

- Valid licenses, certifications, or welding qualifications as required by local regulations.

Rosters

Rosters will vary depending on project requirements. Candidates should be willing to work on swing-style roster arrangements that may include extended periods on site followed by periods of leave.
