Fabricator & Spray Painter – Signage
Full-time, based at our Moonah workshop with travel across Tasmania and sometimes interstate.

Arcom Group delivers complex signage packages for buildings and infrastructure across Tasmania and the eastern states. A family business in signage since 2004, we work with builders, architects, councils and multi-site brands. Recent projects include Albert Hall in Launceston and the new Spirit of Tasmania terminal.

The role

Make sure every sign that leaves Arcom is right before it reaches site. You'll quality check what comes in from our suppliers, then assemble, spray and finish each job and prepare it for install. You'll also fabricate and modify parts in our workshop when a job needs it, and help the install crew on site. It's a hands-on, physical role for someone who's fit and takes pride in a flawless finish.

You'll report to our Production & Engineering Manager. The role is Monday to Friday, with some after-hours and weekend work at overtime rates.

What you'll do

- Spray and finish: prep, fill, sand and spray 2-pak and other coatings on aluminium lightboxes, letters, pylons and panels. Colour match to brand specifications and deliver a flawless finish.

- Quality check incoming goods: inspect signs, parts and materials from our suppliers against the approved drawings. Check sizes, finish, colour, illumination and fixings. Photograph and record any defects, then fix what you can and flag what you can't.

- Assemble: put together lightboxes, fabricated letters, pylons, frames and panels from supplied parts. Fit LED modules, drivers and cabling, ready for a licensed electrician to connect.

- Prepare for install: pre-fit and test each item, add fixings and brackets,



label and pack it, and load it so it reaches site undamaged and complete.

- Fabricate and modify: cut, fold, drill, rivet and bond aluminium, ACM, acrylic and timber for one-offs, modifications and fixes.

- Apply graphics: apply vinyl and graphics, laminate and weed.

- Support installs: help the install crew on site with measures, templates, lifting and installing, and fix any problems found there.

- Keep the workshop running: unload and store deliveries, look after tools, equipment and the spray area, and follow our safety procedures.

- Record the job: log time, checks and materials against each job in our system, with photos before anything leaves.

This role suits

- Spray painters, panel beaters and vehicle bodyworkers: your prep, filling, 2-pak and colour-matching skills are exactly what our finishes need.

- Finish carpenters, cabinetmakers and shopfitters: your precision, clean joins and care for the final surface carry straight across.

- Fabricators, sheet metal workers and boat builders: your drawing-reading and assembly skills do too.

You'll need two or more years of hands-on trade work. You don't need a signage background. If you're positive with your hands, can work to a drawing and take pride in a clean finish, we'll teach you the rest.

About you

Skills:

- Spray painting and surface prep: filling, sanding, priming, 2-pak and colour matching

- Reading technical drawings and measuring accurately

- Assembly with rivets, fasteners, adhesives and sealants

- A sharp eye for quality: spotting what's out of square, off colour or missing

- Confident with technology: using a phone or tablet to view drawings, log time, record quality checks and upload photos

Nice to have:

- Aluminium and steel welding (MIG/TIG)

- Basic LED lighting and low-voltage wiring





- Operating a CNC router or laser

- Vinyl application and large-format graphics

- CAD or Adobe Illustrator for simple drawings

- Sign installation experience

Tickets required: manual driver's licence, Construction White Card, right to work in Australia.
Or able to get (we'll help): EWP, Forklift, Working at Heights, First Aid, WWVP and police check.

Physically fit: this job is on your feet all day, with lifting, carrying, ladders and site work. You'll need to be fit and comfortable with manual handling, and happy to travel for work in Tasmania and sometimes interstate.

Work style: you're careful, take pride in a clean finish, and would rather ask about a drawing than guess. You'll send back a supplier's job if it's not right, instead of letting it go to site.
