The Department of Mines, Petroleum and Exploration is seeking an experienced Environmental Officer to join our Mine Closure and Environmental Services team. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to environmental outcomes across Western Australia while supporting the responsible development of the State's mining, petroleum and exploration industries.

About the Role

As an Environmental Officer, you will undertake environmental assessments, compliance activities and investigations, providing expert advice on environmental matters associated with resource sector operations. Working within a collaborative and professional team, you'll help ensure environmental risks are effectively managed while maintaining high regulatory standards.

Key Responsibilities

- Assess environmental impacts, risks and management strategies associated with resource sector activities.

- Review environmental management plans, technical reports and development proposals.

- Undertake compliance activities, investigations and site inspections.

- Provide expert advice on environmental legislation, policy and best practice.

- Prepare high-quality reports, recommendations and technical documentation.

- Engage with industry, government agencies and stakeholders to support effective environmental outcomes.





- Contribute to evidence-based decision-making that balances environmental protection with responsible resource development.

About You

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- A degree in Environmental Science, Natural Resource Management, Earth Sciences or a related discipline.

- Experience in environmental assessment, environmental management and/or regulatory compliance.

- Knowledge of environmental legislation and environmental risk management principles.

- Strong analytical, investigative and report-writing skills.

- The ability to interpret complex information and provide practical, evidence-based advice.

- Well-developed communication and stakeholder engagement skills.

- A collaborative approach and commitment to achieving positive environmental outcomes.
