The Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) is a statutory authority established under the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia Act 2013 to foster and promote minerals research for the benefit of Western Australia. The State’s objective for MRIWA is to stimulate minerals research which will benefit Western Australia by contributing to achieving advances in science and technology addressing challenges in the minerals industry. MRIWA does this through its impactful research, collaborative research leadership and knowledge transfer programs.

Pending legislative amendments seek to expand MRIWA’s remit to include clean energy and emissions reduction research, formalising MRIWA’s role in supporting research, innovation and collaboration across the minerals, clean energy and emissions reduction sectors.

The Position

This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to Western Australia’s clean energy and emissions reduction research and innovation agenda, supporting development of MRIWA’s strategic priorities and translating them into action through delivery of high-impact collaborative programs, projects and initiatives.

As Principal Project Officer, you will lead the planning, development and delivery of strategic activities relating to clean energy and emissions reduction. Working with a high level of initiative, you will scope and manage a range of programs, projects and initiatives that deliver on MRIWA’s research priorities in clean energy and emissions reduction.

You will collaborate with key internal and external stakeholders to identify, investigate, monitor and review current and emerging trends, developments, research and innovation issues, legislation and policies relating to clean energy and emissions reduction. You will initiate strategic advice and evidence-based recommendations,



coordinate collaboration across government, industry and the research sector, and manage project governance, risk and reporting requirements.

The role is suited to someone who can think strategically and conceptually, confidently interpret complex or technical proposals and engage with relevant subject matter experts, engage and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders and apply sound project management principles to deliver results.

You will be part of a small, highly integrated and team-oriented team where initiative, accountability, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities are highly valued.

- Demonstrated ability and experience in thinking strategically and conceptually to identify and analyse complex and emerging clean energy and emissions reduction issues, developing evidence-based recommendations that inform business area priorities and program development.

- Demonstrated experience leading the planning, development and implementation of high impact strategic projects, programs or commissioned research from inception to implementation, including sound understanding and application of project management principles, governance, risk and reporting practices.

- Highly developed communication skills and a demonstrated ability to write fluently and persuasively in a range of styles and formats.

- A CV (maximum 3 pages) detailing your employment history and achievements relevant to the role‑specific requirements.

- Contact details for two work-related referees, including your current line manager.

- A copy of your qualifications.
