McArthur is seeking an experienced Environmental Health Officer for a full-time temporary 3 month opportunity with a large local government organisation based in Western Sydney.

This is a hands-on environmental health position suited to someone with relevant qualifications and practical experience across public health inspections, environmental investigations, regulatory compliance and community engagement.

You will join an established Environmental Health team and contribute to the delivery of a broad range of environmental and public health programs across the local area.

The role

Your responsibilities will include:

- Undertaking inspections of food premises and food vehicles
- Inspecting skin penetration premises, cooling towers and commercial swimming pools
- Undertaking work relating to on-site sewage management facilities
- Investigating and responding to public health incidents
- Investigating environmental complaints and incidents involving noise, air, water and land pollution
- Assisting with contaminated land and environmental health matters
- Providing environmental health input into Development Applications
- Undertaking sedimentation and erosion control-related activities
- Monitoring compliance with relevant legislation, policies and regulatory requirements
- Preparing inspection records, correspondence, reports and other regulatory documentation
- Providing accurate advice to businesses, residents, other authorities and internal stakeholders
- Maintaining accurate records and ensuring allocated matters are progressed within required timeframes
- Contributing to environmental health education, community programs, events and workshops
- Working collaboratively with internal teams, external agencies and other stakeholders.





The position may also participate in the Environmental Health team's after-hours incident response arrangements on a rotational basis.

About you

To be successful in this position, you will ideally have:

- Degree-level qualifications in Environmental Health or a closely related discipline
- A current NSW Class C driver's licence
- Practical experience working in environmental health, public health or a closely related regulatory environment
- Experience conducting inspections, investigations and compliance activities
- Sound knowledge of current environmental health issues and relevant legislation
- Solid written communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports and regulatory correspondence
- Solid stakeholder and customer-service skills
- Good analytical and problem-solving capability
- Confidence dealing with businesses, residents and other stakeholders regarding environmental health matters
- Strong organisational and records-management skills
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team
- Availability to participate in adaptable and occasional after-hours work as required.

Relevant NSW local government Environmental Health Officer experience would be highly regarded.
