The Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia (MRIWA) is a statutory authority established under the Minerals Research Institute of Western Australia Act 2013 to foster and promote minerals research for the benefit of Western Australia. The State’s objective for MRIWA is to stimulate minerals research which will benefit Western Australia by contributing to achieving advances in science and technology addressing challenges in the minerals industry. MRIWA does this through its impactful research, collaborative research leadership and knowledge transfer programs.

Pending legislative amendments seek to expand MRIWA’s remit to include clean energy and emissions reduction research, formalising MRIWA’s role in supporting research, innovation and collaboration across the minerals, clean energy and emissions reduction sectors.

The Position

This newly created role offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to Western Australia’s clean energy and emissions reduction research and innovation agenda, supporting delivery of MRIWA’s high-impact collaborative programs, projects and initiatives.

As Project Officer, you will support the delivery of strategic activities relating to clean energy and emissions reduction by undertaking research and analysis, coordinating project and governance processes, supporting stakeholder engagement and contributing to the development of evidence-based advice, reports and other written materials.

You will work with internal and external stakeholders to investigate, monitor and review current and emerging trends, developments, research and innovation issues, legislation, policies, programs and practices relating to clean energy and emissions reduction. You will help identify gaps and opportunities, make recommendations, coordinate inputs and actions,



maintain accurate records, and support project implementation, procurement, reporting and continuous improvement activities.

The role is suited to someone who can think strategically and conceptually, apply sound judgement to research and analysis, support project, program, procurement and governance activities, and communicate clearly and persuasively with a range of audiences.

You will be part of a small, highly integrated and team-oriented team where initiative, accountability, sound judgement and the ability to manage competing priorities are highly valued.

o Demonstrated ability to think strategically and conceptually in solving complex problems and a demonstrated understanding of project management principles.

o Demonstrated experience supporting project, program, stakeholder engagement, government procurement or governance activities, including maintaining accurate records, contract administration, tracking actions and coordinating deliverables.

o Demonstrated ability to undertake research, collate information and apply sound judgement to support analysis, reporting, evidence-based decision-making and continuous improvement.

o Highly developed written and verbal communication skills including negotiation and facilitation and ability to write fluently and persuasively in a range of styles and formats.
