Environmental Scientist / Contaminated Land Consultant

Confluence Environmental is growing, with a strong pipeline of work across major infrastructure, development, commercial, industrial and regional projects throughout NSW.
We're looking for an experienced Environmental Scientist / Contaminated Land Consultant to join our growing team.
This is a hands-on consulting role suited to someone who enjoys a mix of fieldwork, technical reporting, project delivery and client interaction.
You'll have the opportunity to take ownership of projects, work directly with clients and senior consultants, and contribute to the continued growth of Confluence Environmental.
The Role
Your responsibilities will include:
Deliver contaminated land investigations and assessments across NSW
Undertake and lead site inspections, environmental sampling and fieldwork
Plan and coordinate field investigations, including subcontractors and laboratories
Prepare technical reports, including:
Preliminary Site Investigations
Detailed Site Investigations
Remediation Action Plans
Validation Reports
Waste Classification Assessments
VENM and ENM Assessments
Acid Sulfate Soil Assessments and Management Plans
Environmental Management Plans
Develop sampling strategies and scopes of work
Interpret laboratory results and field data
Assist with remediation projects, validation and environmental monitoring
Support project planning, scoping, quoting and delivery
Liaise directly with clients, contractors, laboratories and other project stakeholders
Manage projects from initial investigation through to reporting and close-out
Maintain accurate field records and project documentation
Work closely with the broader Confluence Environmental team
Deliver practical,



technically sound and high-quality outcomes for our clients
About You
We're looking for someone who is confident working independently while also enjoying being part of a small, collaborative team.
To be considered for this role, you must have:
A minimum of 2 years' experience in contaminated land and/or environmental consulting
Be based in Newcastle or the Central Coast
Australian citizenship
A relevant tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Geology or a related discipline
Demonstrated experience delivering contaminated land investigations
Experience undertaking soil and groundwater sampling and environmental fieldwork
Experience interpreting laboratory data and preparing technical environmental reports
Working knowledge of relevant NSW environmental legislation, guidelines and contaminated land frameworks
Strong technical writing and report preparation skills
Strong communication and client relationship skills
Good organisational and project management capabilities
A practical approach to problem-solving and project delivery
Ability to manage competing priorities and work across multiple projects
Confidence working both independently in the field and collaboratively within a team
A current Australian driver's licence
Highly regarded:
CEnvP accreditation or working towards accreditation
Licensed Asbestos Assessor
Experience with asbestos in soil
Experience with remediation and validation projects
Experience with waste classification, VENM and ENM assessments




Experience preparing environmental management plans
Experience supervising subcontractors and coordinating environmental field programs
