The Women's Centre is a not-for-profit organisation supporting women and their children across Townsville and the surrounding region, including Ingham, Ayr, Charters Towers and the Townsville Women's Correctional Facility.
We provide a range of services including homelessness support, women's health and wellbeing, sexual assault support, and a 24-hour interagency Sexual Assault Response Service.
At the heart of our work is a simple but powerful belief: women deserve safety, dignity, choice, voice and the opportunity to determine their own lives.
Our practice is grounded in feminist principles, trauma-informed care, intersectionality, social justice and a commitment to challenging the individual and structural factors that contribute to women's inequality and experiences of violence.
We are now looking fora Specialist Homelessness Service Caseworker to join us!
About the role
This is a rewarding and wide-ranging role where you will work alongside women experiencing homelessness, housing instability, domestic and family violence and other complex circumstances.
You will provide specialist case management, housing support, advocacy and practical assistance, while also providing guidance and support to colleagues.
Key responsibilities
Provide specialist case management and support to women experiencing homelessness, including complex and high-risk situations.
Support women to access, establish and sustain safe and appropriate housing and prevent homelessness where possible.
Undertake initial and ongoing assessment,



identify risk and work collaboratively with women to develop practical support and housing goals.
Provide crisis response, advocacy, information, referrals and practical support to women experiencing homelessness, domestic and family violence and other crises.
Advocate for women and support access to specialist and mainstream services, including housing, legal, health, mental health, alcohol and other drug and government services.
Build strong relationships with other services and contribute to collaborative responses that improve outcomes for women experiencing homelessness.
Contribute to a team culture that values reflection, curiosity, kindness, professional growth and shared responsibility.
About you
We are looking for someone who brings both qualified capability and heart to this work.
You will be someone who:
Is passionate about supporting women experiencing homelessness, housing instability, domestic and family violence, disadvantage and complex life circumstances.
Has solid experience in homelessness case management and supporting women with complex needs and circumstances.
Is confident working with complexity and risk and can balance professional boundaries with warmth, compassion and genuine human connection.
Has strong advocacy, networking and service coordination skills and is able to build effective relationships with a range of services and professionals.
Is reflective,



curious and open to learning, and brings kindness, positive intent and commitment to contributing to a safe and respectful team culture.
Understands the unique and ongoing impacts of colonisation, racism and intergenerational trauma on First Nations women, while also recognising First Nations women's strength, culture and expertise.
We strongly encourage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women to apply.The knowledge, culture, and lived experience of First Nations women are key to to the work we do with women across our community.
We recognise that cultural capability is not something that can simply be listed as a selection criterion — it is an ongoing organisational responsibility.
It is a genuine occupational requirement of this position that it be filled by a woman, as permitted under Sections 25, 104 and 105 of theAnti-Discrimination Act **** (Qld).
You will have:
a tertiary qualification in Social Work, Counselling, Psychology, Social Sciences or a related discipline, and/or relevant employment history and demonstrated experience in homelessness case management, housing support, advocacy or working alongside women and their families.
Current Working with Children Blue Card.
Right to work in Australia (e.g. Australian/New Zealand passport, Australian/New Zealand birth certificate or citizenship certificate, or international passport and visa).
SCHCADS Award – Level 5 or SCHADS Level 4 (Dependent on experience, qualifications and skills)
Internal and external professional supervision, as well as regular professional development and ongoing learning opportunities
