Al Mustafa Australia is a humanitarian and charitable organisation supporting vulnerable communities through humanitarian relief and sustainable development programs.
Our work is supported by donors, volunteers, mosques, community organisations, businesses and partners across Australia.
Position Purpose
The Fundraising & Community Engagement Officer is responsible for growing Al Mustafa Australia'sfundraising income, community presence, mosque relationships and volunteer network.
The role will actively engage with mosques, Islamic organisations, community leaders, businesses, donors and volunteers to create sustainable fundraising and community engagement opportunities.
A key responsibility is tobuild and actively manage a robust volunteer databaseto support Jummah collections, Ramadan, Qurban, events, campaigns and other community activities.
Key Responsibilities
1. Fundraising & Campaigns
Implement community fundraising activities and contribute to agreed fundraising targets.
Support key campaigns includingRamadan, Zakat, Sadaqah, Qurban, emergency appeals, orphan sponsorship and other humanitarian programs.
Identify new fundraising opportunities through individuals, businesses, community groups, events and partnerships.
Develop relationships with donors and encourage one-off supporters to become regular donors.
Support fundraising events, sponsored activities, community campaigns and digital/LaunchGood campaigns.
Identify potential major donors, sponsors and partnership opportunities for management follow-up.
2. Mosques & Jummah Collections
Build strong relationships withmosques, Islamic centres, Imams, Sheikhs and mosque committees.
Develop and maintain a database of mosques and Islamic organisations.
Secure and coordinateJummah fundraising collections and appeals.
Coordinate volunteers, donation buckets, EFTPOS/QR codes, banners and campaign materials.
Arrange Ramadan mosque activities including Jummah, Taraweeh and special fundraising appeals where appropriate.
Maintain an annual calendar of mosque fundraising opportunities.
Develop long-term mosque relationships rather than engaging only during fundraising campaigns.
3. Ramadan & Qurban
Develop and implement community engagement plans forRamadan and Qurban/Dhul Hijjah.
Secure mosque and community fundraising opportunities well in advance.
Coordinate Iftars, fundraising dinners, mosque appeals, community events and volunteer activities.
Mobilise volunteers for Ramadan and Qurban campaigns.
Work with marketing staff on campaign promotion, community videos and fundraising materials.




Follow up donors and community contacts generated through seasonal campaigns.
4. Volunteer Recruitment & Management
Building an active volunteer network is acore responsibility of this position.
Recruit volunteers through mosques, universities, youth groups, community organisations, events, social media and existing supporters.
Build and maintain an accuratevolunteer database, including location, availability, skills, interests and previous participation.
Categorise volunteers for activities such as mosque collections, events, Ramadan, Qurban, fundraising, administration and community outreach.
Coordinate volunteer registration, onboarding, induction and rostering.
Maintain regular communication with volunteers and keep the database active.
Develop a reliable group ofcore volunteers and volunteer team leaders.
Recognise and retain volunteers and encourage suitable volunteers to become community ambassadors and fundraisers.
5. Community Engagement & Partnerships
Represent Al Mustafa Australia within Muslim and broader community networks.
Develop relationships with community leaders, Islamic organisations, schools, universities, businesses and professional groups.
Attend relevant community events, conferences and networking opportunities.
Identify sponsorship, partnership and joint-event opportunities.
Organise community presentations, stalls, fundraising dinners, family events and other engagement activities.
Increase awareness and trust in Al Mustafa Australia within the community.
6. Donor Engagement & Marketing Support
Follow up donors and leads generated through community activities and events.
Maintain accurate supporter and community contact records in the organisation's CRM/database.
Work with marketing staff to promote campaigns and community activities.
Identify community leaders and supporters who can participate in campaign videos and promotions.
Assist with distributing campaign materials and increasing campaign reach through community networks.
7. Administration, Compliance & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of fundraising, mosque, volunteer and community activities.
Ensure cash collections and donations are handled according to organisational procedures.
Protect donor and volunteer information and comply with relevant fundraising and privacy requirements.
Maintain a pipeline/calendar of upcoming fundraising and community opportunities.
Provide regular reports to management on fundraising performance,



volunteer growth and community engagement.
Key Performance Indicators
Performance will be assessed against agreed targets, including:
Achievement of fundraising and campaign income targets.
Number of active mosque and Islamic organisation relationships.
Number and value ofJummah and mosque collections.
Ramadan and Qurban fundraising performance.
Growth of the volunteer database and number ofactive volunteers.
Volunteer participation and retention.
Number of community events and partnerships established.
Number of new donors and recurring supporters generated.
New fundraising, sponsorship and major-donor opportunities developed.
Specific numerical targets will be agreed annually as part of the organisation's fundraising plan.
Skills & Experience
Essential:
Experience in fundraising, community engagement, sales, business development or relationship management.
Good understanding of Muslim communities and Islamic charitable giving, includingZakat, Sadaqah, Ramadan and Qurban.
Strong communication, networking and relationship-building skills.
Confidence approaching mosques, community leaders, businesses and potential supporters.
Ability to recruit, motivate and coordinate volunteers.
Strong organisational and database/CRM management skills.
Ability to work independently and achieve measurable targets.
Willingness to attend Friday, evening and weekend community activities when required.
Australian driver's licence and ability to travel to community activities.
Desirable:
Experience with an Islamic charity or Muslim community organisation.
Existing relationships within Australian Muslim communities.
Experience in mosque fundraising, volunteer management or fundraising events.
Experience using CRM/donor management systems.
Personal Attributes
The successful candidate will beproactive, community-focused, organised, relationship-driven and results-oriented.
They must be comfortable approaching new people, asking for support and donations, mobilising volunteers and representing Al Mustafa Australia professionally.
Working Requirements
The position requires flexibility to attendJummah collections, evening/weekend events, Ramadan activities and Qurban campaigns.
Regular travel to mosques, community organisations, businesses and events across Sydney will be required, with occasional interstate activities where necessary.

The Officer should build a sustainable community fundraising network that moves supporters through:
