About the Opportunity
n
We are seeking multiple roles as a Child and Youth Mentor with our Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS) program in Hervey Bay. These are full-time fixed term roles ending 30/06/2027. The key elements of these roles are to provide a range of flexible, responsive, non-clinical mental health services to meet the needs of children and young people affected by, or at risk of, a mental health condition,



and their families and carers.

What you'll be doing
n
n
Provide short and long-term interventions including assessments, goal setting, Family Action Plans, referrals, and practical support.
n
Deliver ongoing case management and continuity of care to young people and families within a culturally sensitive environment.
n
Conduct needs and risk assessments to identify appropriate supports and pathways to improve client outcomes.
n
Build client capacity through education and evidence-based programs delivered individually and in group settings.
n
Connect clients with community resources and services through information provision, referrals, and advocacy.
n
Promote the FMHSS program and IMPACT services through community engagement and awareness activities.
n
Maintain accurate, timely and compliant client records including case notes, supportability, and departmental databases.
n
Ensure compliance with confidentiality, contractual obligations, legislation, and qualified standards, including Child Safe and Disability Service Standards.

To succeed in this role, you will
n
n
Certificate IV in Youth Work,



Community Services or similar vocational qualification (Desirable)
n
Demonstrated experience supporting young people (up to 18 years) experiencing mental health challenges, with exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
n
Strong understanding of mental health, trauma-informed practice, and recovery-oriented approaches, with the ability to provide strengths-based, holistic and culturally appropriate support.
n
Knowledge of child development, early intervention and child protection principles, with a commitment to achieving positive outcomes for children, young people and families.
n
Ability to manage challenging behaviours and respond calmly, professionally and sensitively in complex or unpredictable situations.
n
