Peko Peko Cafe is a quirky, up-to-date Taiwanese cuisine restaurant in South Melbourne.
We are seeking an experienced Pastrycook with strong knowledge and practical skills in pastry, baking and Taiwanese and Asian-inspired desserts to join our team.
About the role
This is an opportunity for a skilled and motivated Pastrycook to work in a busy, fast-paced kitchen and take responsibility for the preparation and delivery of the restaurant's dessert and pastry menu.
Key responsibilities
Preparing and producing Taiwanese and Asian-inspired desserts, pastries and baked goods to the restaurant's standards.
Preparing and producing a range of desserts, including custards, fillings, sauces and other dessert components.
Measuring, weighing and preparing ingredients accurately according to recipes and production requirements.
Operating kitchen equipment safely and effectively.
Decorating, finishing and presenting desserts and pastries to the restaurant's standards.
Preparing dessert components and products in advance to ensure sufficient stock for daily service.
Developing and refining dessert recipes and contributing ideas for new Taiwanese and Asian-inspired desserts.
Setting up and maintaining pastry and dessert preparation stations.
Monitoring stock levels and assisting with ordering and inventory of pastry and dessert ingredients.
Maintaining a clean, organised and hygienic pastry and kitchen area in accordance with food safety requirements.
Reporting regularly to the Chef and General Manager to review feedback, discuss menu improvements and assess work performance.




Working collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure efficient preparation and service.
Skills and experience
Previous professional experience working as a Pastrycook, with demonstrated knowledge and practical experience in pastry, baking and desserts.
Strong knowledge and practical skills in preparing pastries, cakes, desserts, creams, custards, fillings and other dessert components.
Experience preparing Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese or other Asian-inspired desserts will be highly regarded.
Experience working efficiently in a busy, fast-paced commercial kitchen.
Experience using commercial pastry and kitchen equipment.
Strong attention to detail and consistency in measuring, preparation, presentation and finishing.
The ability to work independently, responsibly and effectively as part of a team.
Good organisational skills and the ability to manage preparation and production requirements.
A qualification in a hospitality-related course, such as cookery or patisserie, will be considered an advantage.
The ability to communicate in Mandarin Chinese and read Chinese is essential for this role, as required for kitchen communication and the performance of the position's duties.
Knowledge of Taiwanese Hokkien is desirable and will be viewed favourably.
Experience in Taiwanese, Chinese, Japanese or other Asian cuisines will also be considered.

Position: Pastrycook
Location: South Melbourne, VIC
Employment type: Full-time
Hours: 38hr/wk
Salary: $79,500 AUD per annum, plus superannuation
Trading hours: Tuesday to Saturday.
The restaurant is closed on Sundays and public holidays.
Reporting to: Chef and General Manager
