This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated social worker to join the Social Work Department at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital.

About the Role

You will be working at Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (RPAH). It is one of the nation’s most respected hospitals, with a distinguished history of serving the health needs of local, statewide, national and international communities. Our facilities and services are world class and our staff are dedicated, innovative and caring.

This permanent full time senior level 3 position is located within our Specialties Team and provides social work support to people living in the community and who are accessing palliative care services. You will be part of a large, dedicated and highly skilled department working with culturally and socially diverse patients and their families. All of our positions are also required to provide support to other areas within the hospital as required.

Applicants are advised that at times the position involves working with vulnerable people and people experiencing trauma. Applicants are also advised that this position includes ongoing participation in the after-hours on call crisis service, including weekends. We appreciate that Social Work in public health can be both challenging and rewarding, and we have a suite of wellbeing initiatives occurring across the department to make sure we’re caring for ourselves as well as our patients.

Ideal Candidate





- Holds a Bachelor or post graduate degree in Social Work that provides eligibility for full membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) with experience at Level 2 or higher.
- Advanced clinical knowledge, skill, and significant recent clinical experience in the provision of Social Work in an inpatient and/or community setting including end of life and palliative care, grief and loss counselling with individuals and carers.
- High level verbal, written communication, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to adapt communication style to suit different audiences and work effectively with a multidisciplinary team.
- Ability to independently problem solve, apply professional and ethical boundaries when working with complex situations including end of life care in the hospital and/or community setting.
- Holds a current NSW driver licence (P1 and P2 acceptable).
