Principal Instrumentation Engineer 12-Month Contract | Site-Based Role | Major Industrial Operations
An established engineering consultancy is seeking a Principal Instrumentation Engineer to support a large-scale industrial processing operation. This is a full time, site-based contract position offering exposure to sustaining capital works, brownfield modifications, shutdown projects and operational improvement initiatives.
Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, you will provide technical leadership across instrumentation and control systems projects, guiding engineering activities from scope definition through to construction and commissioning.
Key responsibilities

- Lead instrumentation engineering activities across a portfolio of brownfield and sustaining capital projects.
- Define project scopes and manage scope changes through established project controls processes.
- Prepare and review technical documentation including:
- Datasheets
- Engineering specifications
- Scopes of work
- Design calculations
- Work instructions
- Technical reports
- Design drawings

- Provide engineering support during procurement, construction and commissioning phases.
- Review technical submissions and participate in vendor and contractor evaluations.
- Monitor engineering deliverables, budgets and project progress.
- Participate in risk assessments and ensure safety-in-design principles are applied throughout project delivery.
- Conduct technical reviews and quality checks of engineering deliverables.
- Collaborate with operations, maintenance, construction and project stakeholders.
- Mentor and support engineering team members while promoting technical excellence.
- Assist in resolving technical issues and delivering practical engineering solutions.

About you
- Degree qualified in Instrumentation, Electrical,



Mechatronic or related Engineering discipline.
- Eligibility for professional membership with a recognised engineering institution.
- Extensive experience delivering instrumentation and control systems projects within mining, minerals processing, heavy industry, manufacturing or processing environments.
- Strong brownfield project experience.
- Proven capability leading multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating across multiple stakeholders.
- Experience managing project interfaces between engineering disciplines, operations and construction teams.
- Strong knowledge of project delivery from concept studies through to commissioning and handover.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
