About the Position

The Civil Engineer is an exciting role within our Assets and Technical Services section, sitting in the City Operations directorate. Reporting to the Senior Civil Engineering Coordinator, this position is responsible for the design and delivery of civil engineering projects within the Technical Services team.

Working collaboratively with the Senior Civil Engineering Coordinator, you will provide specialist advice, support and assistance to a team of Engineers, Landscape Architects and Civil Design Drafters, while taking accountability for the design and review of civil engineering projects to ensure the timely delivery of the design program.

This role has responsibilities over a diverse range of civil projects including roadworks, traffic, water resources, footpaths, open space, coastal infrastructure, carparks, lighting, and sports and recreation facilities. You will also act as a key contact on civil engineering issues and engage with internal and external stakeholders to provide proactive advice on design progress.

About You

You are a civil engineering professional with a track record of managing civil engineering design projects. You thrive in a collaborative environment and bring expertise in a civil engineering field, have strong communication skills and a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes for your community. You are able to collaborate successfully with a wide range of internal and external stakeholders to achieve outstanding design outcomes.

Degree qualified in Civil Engineering (or equivalent), you will bring a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the civil engineering design field.



You demonstrate expertise in interpreting and applying Australian Standards and Guidelines, and you have a high capacity for self-management while also contributing effectively to multi-disciplinary teams.

Key Selection Criteria

1. Experience in the development and management of civil design projects, with the ability to work with multiple stakeholders and across multiple asset classes.
2. Experience in interpreting and applying relevant standards, codes and guidelines including Australian Standards and Austroads Guidelines.
3. Demonstrated commitment to customer service and continuous improvement, with the ability to work with members of the public and external stakeholders to resolve contentious issues.
4. High-level written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare reports, guidelines and discussion papers, and to present to internal and external stakeholders.
5. Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent professional qualifications,



with a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the civil engineering design field.
