Chef / Catering Operations Supervisor – Versatile Casual Role

Flying Woks has been operating for more than 25 years, providing live cooking and catering for events across Melbourne and Victoria.

We are looking for a reliable, capable and flexible Chef / Catering Operations Supervisor who wants to become a trusted long-term member of our team.

This is not a traditional restaurant chef role . Our workload follows our events calendar. Some weeks can be very busy with substantial hours available, while other weeks can be quiet. This position may particularly suit someone who has other work, their own business or commitments that allow them to enjoy a genuinely flexible working arrangement.

What you’ll do

- Prepare and cook food in our Ravenhall kitchen
- Organise and prepare catering jobs
- Pack and load equipment and food
- Drive company vehicles to functions
- Lead staff and help coordinate functions
- Cook and serve at events
- Take responsibility for jobs from preparation through to completion
- Help maintain an organised, clean and efficient kitchen and warehouse
- As you learn our business, take on greater operational responsibility





Who we’re looking for

Cooking ability is important, but reliability, judgement and attitude are just as important to us .

We want someone who can eventually be given a catering job and trusted to organise it, lead the team, solve problems and get the job done properly.

You will need to be comfortable with variable hours, including weekends and evenings , because this is event catering rather than a fixed weekly roster.

Over our 25+ years in business, three of our key team members each worked with us for more than 10 years. Their hours increased substantially during busy periods and reduced during quieter periods. We’re looking for the next person who wants that kind of long-term relationship with our business.

There is significant opportunity for the right person to grow into a senior operational role with Flying Woks.

We are also open to discussing a genuine independent contractor arrangement with an established freelance chef or caterer where appropriate.
