The Northern Land Council (NLC) is seeking skilled and committed Lawyers to join our Legal Services team. This is a unique opportunity to practise law in a values-driven organisation that supports Aboriginal land rights, self-determination and strong governance across the Top End.

About the Role

As a Lawyer at the NLC, you will provide high-quality legal advice and representation on matters affecting Aboriginal land, sea and cultural rights. Working closely with Traditional Owners, Council Members and internal stakeholders, you will contribute to decision-making under the Aboriginal Land Rights (Northern Territory) Act 1976 and the Native Title Act 1993. to enable Traditional owners to make decisions through free, prior, informed consent.

You will support negotiations, agreements and statutory processes across a broad range of matters, including land use, governance, commercial agreements and regulatory compliance. The role involves close collaboration with multidisciplinary teams and regular engagement with Aboriginal communities.

What You Will Bring

You are a capable and ethical legal professional who values purpose-driven work and understands the importance of culturally safe practice. You bring strong legal judgement, clear communication skills and the ability to translate complex legal issues into practical advice that supports informed decision-making.

You enjoy working collaboratively, balancing competing priorities, and contributing to outcomes that respect Aboriginal law, culture and governance systems.

In addition, you will have:

- A law degree and admission as a legal practitioner in Australia
- Experience providing legal advice, drafting documents and supporting negotiations
- Solid written and verbal communication skills,



including plain-English drafting
- Demonstrated ability to work respectfully in cross-cultural environments
- Current C Class Driver’s Licence and willingness to travel to remote communities
