Applications are invited for a full-time Laboratory Scientist to join our team at Cairns. This role provides the opportunity to work in a busy, multidisciplinary diagnostic laboratory, supporting the delivery of accurate and timely results that directly contribute to patient care.

Key Responsibilities

Perform routine and specialised diagnostic testing across Haematology, Biochemistry, Blood Banking, STAT Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology

Run, monitor, and interpret quality control (QC) and quality assurance (QA) procedures

Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment

Analyse, interpret, and report results in line with laboratory and accreditation standards

Comply with WHS policies and procedures at all times

Assist with inventory control and stock management

What we are looking for

We are seeking a detail-oriented, highly motivated Laboratory Scientist who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to producing accurate, high-quality results. The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong work ethic, adaptability, and a genuine commitment to supporting patient outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will need to demonstrate the following:

A degree in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent)

Experience in a multidisciplinary laboratory is desirable; however, recent graduates are encouraged to apply, with comprehensive on-the-job training provided

Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, while contributing effectively within a team environment

Strong communication and organisational skills





A high level of commitment to accuracy, quality standards, and laboratory turnaround times

Flexibility to cover a variety of shifts between the hours of weekdays. Participation in a rotating on-call and weekend roster is also required.
