Media Watch is the ABC's long-running media analysis program, on air since 1989. Hosted by Linton Besser, it holds the Australian media industry to account, examining accuracy, ethics and behaviour across TV, radio, print, online and on socials.

The Role

This is a rare opportunity to join the Media Watch team as a journalist/researcher and help shape how Australia sees its own media. Working under limited direction, you'll research, pitch and produce weekly content, turning complex media issues into sharp, engaging stories for a national audience.

You will:

- Research, pitch and write compelling content to a high standard on a weekly basis for Media Watch.
- Monitor media output across television, radio, online news sites, podcasts, social platforms and streaming services
- Support producers, factcheckers and legal advisors, ensuring all work aligns with ABC editorial policies and broadcasting standards
- Work closely with the Media Watch team, collaborating daily

About You

We're seeking an experienced media professional who lives and breathes the industry, someone with a track record of breaking news, a fair and balanced approach,



and genuine insight into how the media works from the ground up.

You will also bring:

- Proven experience researching, pitching and producing original content on a regular cycle
- Sharp media monitoring instincts, with an eye for errors, biases and emerging trends
- Strong editorial judgement, attention to detail and time-management under deadline pressure
- Solid working knowledge of Australia's media laws, including defamation, copyright and contempt
- A team-oriented approach, ready to work closely with the wider team
