About the role

The Public Sector Workforce team provides policy advice to the Premier and senior executives on whole-of-government workforce management issues for Victoria’s public servants and public sector employees, including executive employment and remuneration matters, and supports the work of the Victorian Public Sector Commission.

This is a unique chance to do compelling and important work to support the effectiveness of the Victorian public sector. There will also be opportunities to contribute to the longer-term strategic projects.

- Research and develop advice on a wide range of matters relating to public sector workforce policy, based on relevant legislation and government policy.
- Develop timely and accurate reports, briefs and correspondence on complex public sector workforce matters consistent with government policies and department processes.




- Establish effective relationships with key stakeholders within and beyond DPC, providing clear and useful advice, and accurately representing the department’s views
- Actively contribute to a positive and collaborative organisational culture, supportive of learning and development, innovation and continuous improvement in a dynamic environment.
- Undertake other duties as directed that are not listed in the position description, but which are consistent with a position of this grade and skills requirement and relevant to Cabinet and Governance Branch’s role and responsibilities.

- Policy development and design: Demonstrated policy experience including analysing and evaluating information, consulting others to gain a better understanding of an issue, seeking to develop solutions to policy problems, and understanding government, the role of Parliament, Ministers, and the public service.
- Written communication: Well-developed written communication skills and ability to prepare clear and concise briefs, emails and other written products that are tailored to the audience, with close attention to detail.
- Critical thinking and problem solving: Demonstrated ability to assess,



prioritise and advise on solutions in a fast-paced environment, including providing advice on options, risks and mitigation strategies.
- Stakeholder management: Ability to clearly and confidently communicate public sector workforce policies to other staff and stakeholders and develop effective working relationships with stakeholders.
- Flexibility and adaptability: Demonstrated willingness to be flexible, adaptable and resilient to changing priorities with the ability to meet deadlines under pressure.
- Tertiary qualification in public policy, employment relations or law would be an advantage.

This is a fixed term role available until 8 August 2027. This position is only open to applicants with relevant rights to work in Australia.
