The City of Nedlands is looking for a Senior Governance Officer to join our CEO Office on a 12-month parental leave relief basis.This key role provides high level support to the Manager Governance and Risk Management in delivering efficient, effective and compliant governance and risk management functions across the organisation. About the role

Reporting to the Manager Governance and Risk Management, you will provide governance support and advice to staff and Elected Members, support Council and Committee processes, assist with local government elections, and contribute to the implementation and continuous improvement of the City’s Risk Management Framework.

Key responsibilities

- Provide high level governance support and advice to staff and Elected Members on key governance matters, including policies, compliance requirements, delegations, returns, local laws, statutory registers and Council resolutions.
- Provide administrative and governance support to Council and Committee meetings, including agenda preparation, minutes and governance advice.
- Facilitate and lead reviews of City and Council policies, procedures, frameworks and local laws.
- Assist with the implementation, monitoring, reporting and continuous improvement of the City’s Risk Management Framework, systems, business processes and outcomes.
- Prepare reports, specialist advice and correspondence, develop and update business processes, and facilitate training and awareness activities that build organisational governance and risk capability.

About the successful candidate

This role suits someone who thrives on precision, collaboration, confidentiality and making complex governance and risk management requirements clear and actionable.Other requirements include:

- Sound knowledge and experience interpreting the Local Government Act 1995, associated regulations, standards and governance best practice.
- Significant experience in a similar or equivalent role, including providing governance advice and supporting Council and Committee meetings.
- Experience developing and reviewing policies,



business processes, reports, specialist advice and correspondence.
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively, confidentially and diplomatically with internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong research, analytical and evaluation skills, with the ability to apply initiative, problem solving, sound judgement and integrity.

This full-time, 12-month parental leave relief position offers a cash salary of $84,739 – $114,945 per annum, dependent on skills and experience, plus superannuation.

1893: The first move to establish Local Government in our area with the creation of the Claremont Road Board on 31 March, 1893, governing a total area of ten square miles; forty years after the death of Adam Armstrong, Nedlands' first resident.

1898: Approximately two square miles excised to form the Municipality of Claremont.

1932: Name changed from Claremont Road Board to Nedlands Road Board.

1956: Name changed from Nedlands Road Board to the Municipality of Nedlands.

1959: One hundred and thirty years after the first British settlement around the Swan River, Nedlands achieved City status. Name changed from Nedlands Road Board to the City of Nedlands while under the guidance of Mayor John Charles Smith Esq., JP Mayor.
