If you're a refrigeration technician who enjoys proper fault-finding and wants exposure to more than standard service work, this is an opportunity worth looking at.
Mergent Group is partnering with a long-established commercial refrigeration contractor seeking experienced technicians to join its service and installation team.
You'll work across a broad mix of commercial and industrial refrigeration equipment, with experienced technical managers available when the more difficult jobs come up.
What you'll be working on
The equipment and sites are genuinely varied and can include:
- Supermarket multi-compressor rack systems
- Commercial and industrial refrigeration plant
- CO₂ and newer low-GWP refrigerant systems
- Large cold-storage and freezer facilities
- Individual condensing units and self-contained equipment
- Quick-cooling facilities
- Fruit-ripening and fumigation rooms
- Custom display and storage refrigeration systems
- Dry-age meat and cold-plate display cases
- Electronic refrigeration controllers and monitoring systems
- Older plant requiring strong diagnostic and fault-finding ability
This is a role where you'll have the opportunity to understand complete refrigeration systems, develop your controls knowledge and continue building your technical capability.
What you'll be doing
Your work will include a mixture of:
- Commercial refrigeration servicing and repairs
- Breakdown and warranty calls
- Fault-finding across refrigeration, electrical and control systems
- Supermarket case, cool-room and freezer-room servicing
- Rack-system diagnostics and repairs
- Compressor replacements and major component repairs
- Refrigeration and air-conditioning installations
- Preventative maintenance and detailed equipment inspections
- Repair of case, door and cold-room hardware
- Controller programming and troubleshooting
- Maintaining accurate job notes and asset information through Simpro
- Test-and-tag work where required
- Communicating directly with customers and the service management team
The normal service workload runs Monday to Friday , with participation in a shared after-hours roster.
For technicians interested in additional variety, there are also opportunities to undertake regional supermarket projects and living-away-from-home work.
The on-call roster is organised up to six months in advance , giving you plenty of notice to plan around it.
What we’re looking for
Ideally, you'll have:
- Certificate III in Air Conditioning and Refrigeration
- Current Refrigerant Handling Licence
- Relevant restricted electrical licence
- Current Australian driver's licence
- Commercial refrigeration service experience
- Strong diagnostic and fault-finding skills
- Good workmanship and attention to detail
- Clear communication with customers
- Ability to work independently and know when to seek technical support
Experience across supermarket refrigeration, rack systems, industrial refrigeration or CO₂ systems would be highly regarded.
However, you don't need to have worked on everything listed above. A strong refrigeration foundation and a genuine desire to develop further will also be considered.
