Disability Support Worker | Cooktown DIDO 2 on / 2 off | Travel & Accom Paid

We're looking for compassionate and dedicated support workers based in Cairns to join VitalCore Support Services on our Cooktown rotation. It works like FIFO, except you drive: 2 weeks on in Cooktown, then 2 weeks off at home. This is a casual role supporting adults with disabilities and the elderly in the Cooktown community, where support workers are hard to find and you'll make a real difference to people's independence and quality of life. We have multiple positions available and can start the right people immediately.

How the rotation works

2 weeks on in Cooktown, 2 weeks off at home in Cairns

You drive to Cooktown at the start of each swing and home at the end (around 330 km each way on the sealed Mulligan Highway)

Your drive time is paid at the rate for that day, from start to finish, both ways

You're paid $1.05 per km for the drive, both ways

Your own motel room in Cooktown is fully paid for the whole swing

Full time hours are available while you're on swing, with a mix of shorter visits and 4 to 6 hour shifts

You'll complete our training and induction before your first swing

What you'll be doing

Help with household tasks such as cleaning, cooking and laundry

Provide social and emotional support, engaging clients in activities and outings around Cooktown

Advocate for clients and liaise with families, healthcare professionals and other stakeholders

Maintain accurate client records and documentation

Adhere to workplace policies, procedures and quality standards

What we're looking for

Relevant qualifications in aged care, disability support or a related field

Certificate III in aged care, disability support or a related field is optimal

Previous experience working with the elderly or people with disabilities





Minimum of 6 months' experience working with the elderly or people with disabilities is optimal

Live in or near Cairns and able to commit to a 2 weeks on / 2 weeks off rotation in Cooktown

A current driver's licence and your own reliable car for the drive to Cooktown and for transporting clients

A cleared NDIS Worker Screening Check before you start

Current First Aid certification is required at commencement

Strong communication and interpersonal skills

Empathy, patience and a genuine desire to make a difference in people's lives

Reliable, flexible and able to work independently or as part of a team

Candidates must have valid Australian work authorisation to be eligible for this position.

What we offer

Casual rates from $39 per hour on weekdays up to $66.26 per hour on Sundays, plus super

Paid drive time and $1.05 per km both ways, every swing
