Disability Support Workers - Sleepover Shifts - SIL homes
The Disability Support Worker plays an important role in supporting people with disability to
build skills, achieve their goals, and participate fully in their communities. Through tailored
training and support, they help individuals enhance their daily living, employment, social, and
recreational skills in ways that reflect each person's unique strengths, needs, and aspirations.
A strong focus is placed on promoting independence, community inclusion, informed decision-
making, and personal choice. By working collaboratively with each individual, the Disability
Support Worker empowers people to live meaningful lives, exercise control over their own
decisions, and engage in activities that are important to them.
Participants Location:
SIL homes located at The Basin, Doveton, Essendon or Sunbury, Melbourne.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
You'll be providing personalised care and support to SIL participants, including:
Evening Routine Support:
Assist participants with dinner preparation, eating, personal hygiene, changing into sleepwear,
and taking evening medications.
Passive On-Call Availability:
Remain on the premises, resting in an allocated room while staying available to respond if
needed.
Unplanned Night Assistance:
Respond to urgent or necessary disruptions, such as assisting with using the bathroom, managing
sudden distress, or administering time-sensitive medication, typically capped at two hours of
total active waking time per shift.
Morning Routine Support:
Wake up at the end of the sleep period to help participants with morning hygiene, breakfast
preparation, and starting their day.
Documentation & Handover:
Log any night disturbances, exact times spent awake providing active care, medication
administration records, and brief morning handover notes for incoming staff
Qualifications / Requirements:
Cert III Individual Support, Mental Health, Aged Care, Community Services, Disability Work
Current WWCC, Criminal Record Check and First Aid Certificate
Drivers License / Reliable and Comprehensively Insured vehicle
Smart phone
Experience:
Experience supporting People with Disability.
Demonstrated Continuing Career development.
Knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles.
Skills:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly,
respectfully, and compassionately.
Strong ability to build meaningful rapport and establish trusting relationships.
Effective time management skills, with the ability to prioritise tasks while remaining
responsive to clients' individual needs.
Proficient in using the Microsoft Office Suite and other computer systems for accurate
documentation and record keeping.
Well-developed problem-solving and conflict resolution skills, approaching challenges with
empathy, professionalism, and a solution-focused mindset.
Collaborative team member who values positive working relationships and contributes to a
supportive and respectful workplace culture.
