General Manager - Employment and Training

Our client is a well-established, not for profit organisation delivering employment, training and community-based services across multiple states.

Operating within complex government-funded and contractually governed environments, the organisation has a solid track record of delivering quality services and positive outcomes for participants, employers and communities.

The organisation is entering an exciting period of investment and growth, creating an opportunity for an experienced senior operational leader to join the leadership team and help build the capability, systems and operational depth required for its next stage.

About the Role

The General Manager is a senior leadership position working closely with the Executive responsible for a diverse portfolio of employment and training services.

The role will operate across a range of programs including Employment Services, Vocational Education and Training, and other specialist programs and initiatives.

Rather than taking day-to-day responsibility for a single program or region, you will work across the portfolio, partnering with the senior leadership team to strengthen performance, quality and consistency and ensure strategic initiatives are successfully translated into operational delivery.

You will provide additional leadership capacity across the department, stepping into complex operational matters, supporting senior leaders, driving improvement initiatives and helping ensure regions and programs are performing effectively.

This is not an advisory role. Our client is looking for an accomplished operator who can quickly understand what is happening across a complex service environment and take ownership of making things happen.

As the organisation continues to grow, the role will also contribute to innovation, new service models, business growth and the successful mobilisation and integration of new programs and opportunities.

Key Responsibilities





- Partner with executives and senior leaders to drive performance across Employment and Training services
- Support teams to strengthen operational performance, leadership capability and accountability
- Monitor performance across programs and regions and intervene where additional leadership or operational support is required
- Lead and support the implementation of strategic projects, service improvements and new initiatives
- Use data and operational insight to identify performance issues and drive evidence-based decision-making
- Strengthen consistency, quality and operational discipline across geographically dispersed services
- Support the mobilisation and implementation of new contracts, programs and service models
- Drive innovation and identify opportunities to improve participant, employer and operational outcomes
- Work collaboratively across teams and service areas to create a more integrated approach
- Contribute to quality, compliance and continuous improvement across government-funded programs
- Support organisational growth, including tenders, new business opportunities and potential future acquisitions
- Represent executives and broader portfolio internally and externally when required
- Provide experienced senior leadership across the portfolio during periods of change, growth or operational complexity

About You

You will be an experienced senior operational leader who is comfortable working across complex, multi-site and government-funded service environments.

Importantly, you will have operated beyond regional / state management level and will understand how to lead through other senior managers.

Ideally, you will bring:





- Significant senior operations leadership experience within Employment Services, Human Services, Community Services, VET or another government-funded service environment
- Experience operating at General Manager, State Manager, Head of Operations, Multi-State Manager or equivalent level
- Demonstrated experience leading managers and supporting geographically dispersed operations
- A strong understanding of operational performance, quality, contractual compliance and service delivery
- The ability to analyse data, identify underlying performance issues and translate insights into action
- Experience driving operational improvement and successfully implementing change
- The confidence to step into complex situations and provide practical leadership without requiring significant direction
- Experience supporting the mobilisation of new programs, contracts or service models
- Strong commercial awareness and an understanding of how quality service delivery, operational performance and financial sustainability intersect
- The ability to influence and work effectively with experienced senior leaders
- Solid stakeholder management and communication skills
- Exposure to tenders, business growth, innovation, acquisitions or recent service development would be advantageous

This role would particularly suit an established General Manager who enjoys variety and wants the opportunity to influence performance across a broader portfolio rather than managing a single program.

The role will be based in Sydney, with a strong on-site presence and regular interaction with operational teams. Travel across NSW and the ACT will be required, with occasional interstate travel depending on operational and business requirements.
