About The Role

As Senior Legal Counsel, Business Bank, you will provide practical, commercial and timely legal advice across a broad range of banking and finance activities. Working within the Business Bank Legal team, you will support stakeholders across BOQ, BOQ Specialist, BOQ Finance and BOQ Financial Markets, helping the business make informed decisions while effectively managing legal and regulatory risk.

About The Role

As Senior Legal Counsel, Business Bank, you will provide practical, commercial and timely legal advice across a broad range of banking and finance activities. Working within the Business Bank Legal team, you will support stakeholders across BOQ, BOQ Specialist, BOQ Finance and BOQ Financial Markets, helping the business make informed decisions while effectively managing legal and regulatory risk.

Your work will cover SME and corporate lending, deposit products, equipment and vendor finance, novated leasing, structured finance, foreign exchange products and distribution arrangements. You will advise on the development and amendment of lending and deposit product terms, negotiate bespoke contractual arrangements, and support the structuring, negotiation and settlement of transactions.

You will also provide legal guidance on regulatory implementation, customer remediation, mandatory breach reporting, marketing activities and strategic transformation initiatives. Managing multiple matters and projects at once, you will work closely with stakeholders across Distribution, Product, Credit, Operations, Risk, Compliance and Transformation, providing clear advice, constructive challenge and appropriate escalation when emerging risks are identified.

About You





You are an experienced Australian legal practitioner with at least eight years’ post-admission experience and solid technical capability developed in private practice, in-house, or a combination of both. Experience within banking and finance will be highly regarded, particularly where you have advised on transactional business banking matters, SME business structures, loan facilities, equipment finance or vendor finance.

You bring a practical understanding of the legal and regulatory environment applying to business banking, supported by foundational knowledge of property, corporate and trust law. You are comfortable interpreting complex legislative and regulatory requirements and turning them into clear, commercially focused advice for a range of audiences.

You are known for your sound legal and commercial judgement, your ability to identify connections across products and business functions, and your confidence in providing constructive challenge or escalating risk when required. You build trust through practical solutions, communicate complex matters clearly and can lead significant transactions and projects with limited supervision.

You are also comfortable using approved AI and legal technology tools to support efficient ways of working, while independently verifying outputs and retaining accountability for the advice you provide.
