We are partnering with a leading higher education organisation to recruit a Senior Finance Business Partner to support a significant portfolio across research and research funding.

This is not a traditional budgeting and forecasting role. The focus is on being a genuine strategic partner to the business, working closely with senior leaders (high performing Deans/DVCs) to provide insight, challenge thinking and help shape financial and commercial decisions across a complex research portfolio.

Sitting close to the business, you will build strong relationships with senior academic, research and operational stakeholders, developing a detailed understanding of their priorities and using financial insight to support both immediate and longer-term decision-making.

The Role

As Finance Business Partner, you will:

- Act as a trusted strategic finance partner to senior stakeholders across the research portfolio.
- Provide insight, advice and constructive challenge to support key financial and operational decisions.
- Translate complex financial information into clear, practical advice for non-finance stakeholders.
- Support decisions around research funding, investment, resource allocation and longer-term planning .
- Identify financial risks,



opportunities and emerging trends across the portfolio.
- Develop business cases, scenario analysis and financial modelling to support strategic initiatives.
- Lead conversations around financial performance rather than simply reporting the numbers.
- Partner with stakeholders through the budgeting, forecasting and planning cycle, ensuring financial plans align with broader strategic priorities.
- Drive improvements in financial capability, reporting and decision-making across the portfolio.

About you

We are looking for an experienced Finance Business Partner, Commercial Finance professional who has moved beyond traditional reporting and is comfortable influencing senior stakeholders.

You will be naturally curious, commercially minded and confident asking questions and challenging thinking when required. Just as importantly, you will be able to build credibility with stakeholders and communicate financial information in a way that supports better decision-making.

The ability to operate as a genuine strategic business partner will be the key.
