Senior Technical Role | Regular Interstate Travel

United Petroleum is one of Australia’s largest independent, Australian-owned petrol and convenience companies, with an extensive retail network and fuel infrastructure operations across Australia.

We are seeking an experienced Senior Project Mechanical Engineer to join our Melbourne-based team, delivering engineering projects across our petroleum import terminals and national retail network.

This hands‑on role provides exposure to a diverse portfolio of projects across our terminals at Hastings VIC, Port Alma QLD, Mackay QLD and Bell Bay TAS , together with engineering and capital works across our retail network.

The Opportunity

You will manage engineering projects from concept and design through tender, construction, implementation, commissioning and operational handover , working closely with operations, HSE, contractors, consultants and suppliers.

Key responsibilities include:

- Manage the design, tender process and implementation of a variety of engineering and infrastructure projects.
- Deliver terminal upgrades, maintenance projects and asset integrity programs.
- Manage aboveground storage tank inspection, maintenance and integrity requirements in accordance with API 653 .
- Support pipeline integrity and maintenance activities in accordance with AS 2885 .
- Provide technical expertise across tanks, piping, pumps, valves, fuel systems and associated infrastructure.
- Manage consultants, contractors and specialist service providers, including supervision of site works.




- Provide engineering support and deliver infrastructure upgrades across United Petroleum’s retail service station network.
- Participate in design reviews, risk assessments, HAZOPs, commissioning and operational handovers.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely and in accordance with scope, budget, schedule, quality and regulatory requirements.

About You

To be successful, you will ideally bring:

- A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering .
- Chartered Professional Engineer status , or equivalent recognised credential.
- Current registration on Engineers Australia’s National Engineering Register in an appropriate area of practice.
- Robust experience managing projects through design, tender, construction, implementation and commissioning .
- Experience with API 653 and AS 2885 requirements.
- Strong contractor management, construction supervision and commissioning experience.
- Practical technical judgement and the ability to manage multiple projects across geographically dispersed sites.
- A current driver's licence and willingness to undertake regular interstate travel .

Previous oil company experience will be highly regarded but is not essential. Experience within petroleum terminals, bulk fuel storage or Major Hazard Facilities and knowledge of relevant Australian and API standards will also be highly regarded.
