Position Information

Urana Public School is located on Wiradjuri land, in southern NSW in the Riverina region, in the small rural township of Urana. There are currently 8 student enrolments from Kindergarten to Year 6.

Urana Public School regularly joins with other nearby small schools and central schools to participate in carnivals, performances, workshops and other activities. We pride ourselves in providing diverse opportunities including sports gala days, science fairs, camps, musical performances and excursions.

The school community is focused on providing students with as many new experiences as possible in order for each individual child to discover their unique talents and to grow and develop as a whole person. There is also a strong focus on the delivery of high-quality literacy and numeracy teaching and learning activities in order for students to achieve excellence.

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants and/or primary.

- Demonstrated ability to engage, inspire, and support staff with strong interpersonal and communication skills, balancing classroom teaching and complex administrative responsibilities as a teaching principal, while leading and fostering a culture of robust collaboration in curriculum delivery.
- Demonstrated capacity to be a proactive,



approachable and visible leader with a commitment to promoting the school profile and building authentic connections with parents, carers, and the wider community to strengthen a culture of productive partnerships in education.
- Ability to foster an inclusive, collaborative and high-trust school culture, using authentic student voice to inform decision-making, strengthening staff collective responsibility for equity to support student wellbeing.
- Proven capacity to lead with an evaluative mindset and a focus on evidence informed practices to improve the learning of all students and build the capability of all staff at Urana Public School and the surrounding small schools and in the Narrandera Network.

General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policies and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis.The principal classification for this school is Teaching Principal Level TP1 for 2026 and also for 2027.
