Senior AI / Machine Learning Engineers - Multiple Roles

THE ROLES

BLACKROC is recruiting a cluster of senior AI engineering roles for Brisbane organisations ranging from 40 to 2,000 people, each rebuilding internal systems and tooling around AI. The roles fall into three families:

- Agentic AI: production agents, MCP and tool-calling systems, LLM orchestration
- Applied AI / ML: production ML, search, ranking, RAG and evaluation pipelines
- AI-first Software Engineering: building AI-native internal platforms and tooling, and building them with agents - engineers who direct coding agents across a codebase and own what ships

Some roles sit inside the business alongside operational teams, finding the real problems and shipping the fix. Others sit closer to platform.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

- Design, build and operate AI systems in production, end to end
- Work directly with the people who use what you build
- Own evals, latency, cost and failure modes, not just the demo




- Set the standard for how AI is built and governed in businesses doing this for the first time

WHAT YOU BRING

- Deep software engineering fundamentals: you've shipped and run production systems
- Recent hands-on work with LLMs, agents, RAG or ML in production
- You already build with coding agents day to day, and you can tell me where they're wrong
- Strong in Python or TypeScript; comfortable across AWS, Azure or GCP
- Brisbane-based, in office 3 or 4 days a week. Fully remote isn't available for these roles; must have full working rights.

WHY NOW

The big names have done this for years. It's now hitting SMEs and the upper mid-market, where there are fewer layers, less governance and sponsorship straight from the CEO and board. Fewer people between you and the outcome, and the outcome is visible.
