Kingkids ELC & Kindergarten – Clyde North VIC

Casual/Flexible hours

Prospect to transition to permanent part-time

Cook’s Assistant – KingKids Clyde North About the role KingKids Clyde North is looking for a warm, reliable and enthusiastic Cook’s Assistant to join our team and support the preparation of fresh, nutritious meals for our children.

This position will initially be casual, with the opportunity to transition to permanent part-time employment in the future.

We understand that the right working hours can make all the difference. There is flexibility around the daily hours, and we’re happy to discuss a schedule that works for both you and our team.

At KingKids, our kitchen is an important part of our service. Working alongside our Cook, you’ll help prepare meals and snacks, maintain a beautifully clean and organised kitchen, manage dishes and cleaning throughout the day, and support the safe preparation and distribution of food across the service.

It’s also much more than working behind the scenes. You’ll be part of the KingKids community, building positive relationships with children, educators and families and contributing to an environment where children feel safe, welcomed and cared for.

Key responsibilities

Assist the Cook with preparing fresh, nutritious meals and snacks for children

Support food preparation, portioning and distribution of meals

Assist with preparing meals for individual allergies, dietary requirements and cultural preferences under the direction of the Cook

Follow allergy and anaphylaxis procedures and strict controls to prevent cross-contamination

Complete dishes and kitchen cleaning throughout the day

Maintain a clean, organised and hygienic kitchen environment

Follow safe food handling, preparation, storage and hygiene practices

Assist with unpacking, organising and rotating kitchen supplies

Work collaboratively with the Cook, educators and leadership team

Build warm and respectful relationships with children and the wider KingKids community

Understand and uphold the Victorian Child Safe Standards and KingKids’ child safety policies and procedures

Contribute to a culture where the safety, wellbeing and best interests of children are always prioritised

About you We’re looking for someone who is willing to get involved, takes pride in their work and understands just how significant a clean, safe and well‑organised kitchen is within an early learning service.

You will be:

Reliable, organised and able to work efficiently as part of a team

Comfortable assisting with food preparation and kitchen duties

Committed to maintaining excellent standards of cleanliness and hygiene

Confident following instructions relating to allergies, dietary requirements and safe food handling

Warm, friendly and approachable with children, families and educators

Respectful and appreciative of different cultures, backgrounds and food traditions

Willing to learn and support the Cook wherever needed

Committed to creating a safe, inclusive and child‑focused environment

Willing to actively uphold KingKids’ commitment to child safety

Previous experience working in a commercial kitchen, early childhood service, school, aged care or similar environment would be highly regarded, but we’re also open to the right person who is reliable, enthusiastic and willing to learn.

Requirements To be considered for this role, you will need:

A current Working with Children Check, or willingness to obtain one prior to commencing

Food Handling/Food Safety training, or willingness to obtain this

An understanding of the importance of allergy, anaphylaxis and dietary management

A commitment to KingKids’ child safety requirements, policies and procedures

Availability to work five days per week

At KingKids, child safety is everyone’s responsibility. Every team member, regardless of their role, is expected to contribute to an environment where children are safe, respected and supported.

If you enjoy working with food, love keeping things clean and organised and want to become part of a welcoming early learning community, we’d love to hear from you.
