Scary Canary is looking for a Venue Manager who knows that a successful venue is built on more than smooth operations.

We want someone who can lead from the front, create a genuinely welcoming atmosphere and build the relationships that keep people coming back. You will be the kind of person who remembers faces, brings energy to the room and understands how great hospitality can drive patronage, loyalty and revenue.

This is not a standard Venue Manager role focused mainly on rosters, stock and administration. These responsibilities still matter, but your main purpose will be to grow the venue through strong leadership, partnerships, events, marketing and repeat visitation.

Venue Manager, Scary Canary Sydney CBD | Full time About Scary Canary Located in the Sydney CBD, Scary Canary serves backpackers, students, young locals and international travelers.

During the day, we operate as a relaxed food and beverage venue. At night, the venue becomes a busy social and entertainment space with regular events, promotions and group activity.

Scary Canary is part of Tourism Adventure Group, which operates youth-focused accommodation, bars and travel experiences across Australia and New Zealand.

The role As Venue Manager, you will take ownership of the guest experience, the venue atmosphere and the commercial opportunities that come through the door.

You will be highly visible in the venue and comfortable leading from the floor. You will know how to read the room, support your team and make sure guests feel recognised and welcome.





You will also look beyond the day-to-day operation. We need someone who can identify opportunities, build practical relationships and turn strong experiences into repeat business.

Your responsibilities will include:

Growing patronage, repeat visitation and bar revenue

Building relationships with hostels, tour operators, universities, language schools, student organisations, travel businesses and event organisers

Developing group business and creating reasons for customers to return

Leading venue partnerships with support from the wider team

Planning and delivering events, entertainment and promotions

Working with the marketing team to shape the venue's identity, content and communication

Helping develop relevant TikTok and Instagram content for an 18 to 25 year old audience

Representing Scary Canary within Sydney's tourism, hospitality and nightlife industries

Recruiting, mentoring and developing junior employees and managers

Delegating effectively and creating a positive, accountable team culture

Monitoring sales, labour, stock and overall venue profitability

Maintaining standards across RSA, liquor licensing, food safety, security and venue compliance

The General Manager will remain closely involved in cost oversight. Your focus will be on creating demand,



growing revenue and building a venue that guests want to visit again.

What we are looking for You will be warm, confident and naturally good with people. You do not need to force your personality, but you should be comfortable being a visible leader and representing the venue.

You will understand that hospitality and commercial performance are closely connected. You can build rapport without losing sight of the business opportunity, and you know how to turn ideas into practical action.

You will ideally bring:

Experience in bars, food and beverage, entertainment or late-night venues

Strong relationship building and networking skills

A commercial mindset with experience growing sales, events, groups or partnerships

The ability to develop and deliver events and promotions from planning through to execution

A practical understanding of how marketing and social media influence venue patronage

Confidence guiding content and communication for a young adult audience

A collaborative leadership style that develops people and includes the team

Sound knowledge of RSA, liquor licensing, food safety, security and compliance requirements

The organisation and attention to detail needed to bring every part of the venue together

You will need to be comfortable working the hours required to properly lead a busy hospitality and entertainment venue, including nights and weekends.
