Spinifex Recruiting is seeking an organised and detail-oriented Payroll Officer to join our growing team in Byron Bay. This is an excellent opportunity to become part of a highly regarded Northern Rivers business that partners closely with Local Government and community-focused organisations across the region.

Working from our Byron Bay office, you will play a key role in supporting payroll services for a large temporary workforce engaged across multiple NSW Councils, mining sites, factory workers and State Government too! This position offers variety, responsibility and the opportunity to work within a supportive and collaborative team environment that genuinely values its people.

About the Role As Payroll Officer, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely processing of payroll while providing exceptional service to both employees and clients. You will work across a range of systems and processes, contributing to the smooth operation of payroll functions and supporting the ongoing growth of the business.

While payroll experience is highly regarded, we are also interested in speaking with candidates who have strong administration, HR, finance or customer service backgrounds and can demonstrate excellent attention to detail, process adherence and a willingness to learn.

Key Responsibilities

Process payroll accurately and efficiently across multiple client organisations

Maintain payroll records and employee information

Respond to payroll-related enquiries from employees and clients

Work across several systems and platforms with confidence

Assist with payroll reporting and reconciliation activities

Interpret awards, agreements and employment conditions where required

Contribute to process improvement initiatives and system efficiencies

Collaborate closely with recruitment consultants, candidates and clients

Strong organisational and time management skills

Intermediate Microsoft Office and Excel skills

The ability to quickly learn recent systems and processes

A proactive and adaptable approach to work

Strong communication and customer service abilities

Finance, HR or administration experience

Experience interpreting awards and enterprise agreements

Customer service experience
