Women's Crisis Support Service Inc (WCSSI) is a not-for-profit Domestic and Family Violence service supporting women and children across the Ipswich region.

n

WCSSI provides trauma-informed, feminist and client-centred case management support to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence. Our services are delivered through both our women's refuge and our Mobile Support Program, which provides outreach and community-based support to women living in the community.

Our team works alongside women to enhance safety, support recovery and build pathways towards secure housing, independence and long-term wellbeing. We work collaboratively with women, children and a broad range of community and specialist services to provide holistic support and advocacy throughout their journey.

The Child & Youth Specialist provides high-quality, child-focused support to children and young people in the refuge and mobile support programs. The Child and Youth Specialist will work therapeutically and collaboratively with caregivers, provides case management, emotional support, advocacy, and developmentally appropriate interventions that promote healing, stability, and positive relationships.

"This is a women‐only position under section 25 of the Anti‐Discrimination Act 1991 (Qld), as the role involves providing specialist support to women and children experiencing domestic and family violence." All workers must undergo a criminal record check.

Key responsibilities

- Develop individual case plans for children and young people, informed by their needs, goals, safety considerations, and developmental stage
n
- Conduct child-focused assessments to identify risks, strengths, support needs, and therapeutic priorities
n
- Provide ongoing monitoring, documentation,



and review of case plans in line with organisational policies and best practice
n
- Deliver trauma-informed, developmentally appropriate therapeutic interventions to support children's emotional, social, and behavioural wellbeing
n
- Provide one‐on‐one therapeutic sessions and play‐based interventions
n
- Facilitate referrals to external therapeutic services when required and coordinate collaborative care
n
- Plan and deliver structured group programs, workshops, and recreational activities that promote resilience, emotional regulation, social skills, and positive peer relationships
n
- Provide parenting support, guidance, and psychoeducation to strengthen parent‐child relationships and promote safe, nurturing care
n
- Liaise with schools, early childhood services, health professionals, counsellors, and other relevant stakeholders to ensure continuity of care and support for each child
n
- Advocate for children's needs, rights, and safety across all systems and services

About you

n

n
- Demonstrated experience working therapeutically with children and young people, ideally within family violence, trauma, or community services
n
- Strong understanding of child development, trauma impacts, and child‐focused practice frameworks
n
- Ability to deliver case management, assessments, and therapeutic interventions
n
- Experience supporting parents and families to develop healthy routines and strengthen relationships
n
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to engage children of varying ages and backgrounds
n
- Ability to collaborate effectively with schools, health professionals, and external stakeholders
n
- Commitment to child safety, empowerment, and culturally responsive practice
n
- Experience working within a child protected framework
n
- Qualifications in Social Work, Psychology, Counselling, Child and Family or related field
n
- Knowledge of family violence frameworks, risk assessment, and refuge operations
