Curlewis Public School is located on Gamilaroi Country and has a rich history, having been established in 1862. Situated in the rural village of Curlewis, the school is a vibrant learning community that draws from a diverse population with an enrolment of approximately 80 students. The school supports a variety of learning needs and ensures that every student feels included and valued.

Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students make up around 62% of the student population, and there is a strong emphasis on teaching Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture and history throughout the school. Staff members actively engage with the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island community to promote cultural understanding and awareness.

1. Proven ability to develop and implement exemplary classroom teaching practice in a multi-age classroom which delivers high-quality learning and improved outcomes for students, whilst meeting the complex demands of leading and managing a school.

2. Proven ability to implement and lead inclusive processes that support and engage a diverse learning community to meet each student’s individual learning needs, complemented by effective classroom behaviour management.

3. Demonstrated capacity to build authentic and sustained partnerships with Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students, families, community and the AECG to lead culturally responsive practices and strengthen Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island education, identity, engagement and outcomes.

4. A highly visible, collaborative and inspiring leader who demonstrates a proven ability to build authentic and trusted partnerships across the entire school community.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation.
