We are an independent specialist veterinary dermatology practiceseeking an enthusiastic and capable veterinary nurse to join our growing Brisbane team.

Our dermatology team works across several multidisciplinary specialist veterinary hospitals in Brisbane, providing the opportunity to work alongside a broad range of veterinary specialists while remaining part of a dedicated, close-knit dermatology team. Depending on the successful applicant and practice requirements, there may be the chance for the position to be primarily based on either the north or west side of Brisbane.

About the role

This is a varied position combining general veterinary nursing with the opportunity to develop advanced dermatology-specific nursing skills. You will work closely with a team of specialist veterinary dermatologists and highly trained dermatology nurses, with considerable opportunity to expand your knowledge of dermatological disease, diagnostics and treatment, while developing advanced nursing and client communication skills.

Key responsibilities

- Assisting specialist dermatologists with consultations, diagnostic procedures and treatments
- General veterinary nursing duties, including patient handling and restraint, preparation for procedures, anaesthetic monitoring, patient recovery
- Preparation and assistance with dermatological procedures including skin biopsies, ear procedures, advanced imaging (CT and MRI scanning) and other diagnostic investigations
- Collection, preparation, handling and interpretation of dermatological diagnostic samples including cytology samples
- Performing nurse dermatology consultations, including client education, treatment demonstrations and follow-up care




- Performing intradermal allergy testing following appropriate training
- Communicating with clients regarding treatment plans, medications and ongoing management of chronic dermatological conditions
- Maintaining accurate clinical records and assisting with coordination of patient care
- Working collaboratively with our dermatologists, dermatology nurses, referring veterinarians and the wider multidisciplinary specialist hospital teams

About you

- Hold a veterinary nursing qualification and have experience working in a veterinary clinical environment
- Have excellent animal handling and general nursing skills
- Be able to commute to more than one location in south-east Queensland
- Enjoy communicating with clients and helping them understand their pet's condition and treatment
- Have strong organisational skills and exercise meticulous attention to detail
- Be comfortable working both independently and as part of a team
- Have an interest in developing advanced nursing skills and knowledge
- Enjoy working with chronic and complex cases where good communication and continuity of care can make a significant difference to patients and their families
