Roles will be based in Kununurra.

The Youth Transition Coordinator role does not qualify for GROH housing.

School of Special Educational Needs: Behaviour & Engagement (SSEN:BE)

SSEN:BE is part of the network of specialist schools that operates under the Statewide Services pillar of Service Delivery. SSEN:BE provides educational support and services with schools for students who present with extreme, complex and challenging behaviours across a K to 12 context. A continuum of services including professional learning, consultative support and direct and indirect student support is delivered through Engagement Centres and the Midland Learning Academy (MLA). The services of Engagement Centres and MLA are coordinated through SSEN:BE which provides the administrative structure that oversees and manages these services as a statewide model of supports for schools, teachers and students. The services complement other teams working in networks, regions and schools, supporting a greater number of students across the State. Support is available across the public school system.

- Professional learning to improve student engagement and behaviour
- Consultative support for schools needing additional assistance with planning for those students with very complex needs
- Direct and indirect support for individual students exhibiting the most extreme, challenging and complex needs.

The Role

SSEN:BE are seeking to establish a pool of Youth Transition Coordinators to service the East Kimberley region.





Youth Transition Coordinators are responsible for providing individualised case coordination and support services for students aged 10 to 18 years old who are exiting a custodial sentence transitioning from Banksia Hill Detention Centre to a range of education, training and employment options. Youth Transition Coordinators should work within the requirements of the Young Offenders Act and the Children and Community Services Act. Youth Transition Coordinators should connect young people to appropriate youth and counselling services, as well as maintain an effective network of youth, employment, education and training services relevant to young people in the area.

Suitable applicants will ideally have previous experience in a similar position working with youth, as well as possess strong communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to work collaboratively as part of a case management team. Suitable applicants should actively participate in multi-disciplinary team meetings to support students, including the provision of information and consultancy advice as required. This role requires a high degree of initiative and the ability to work autonomously. Line management for the Youth Transition Coordinator position is based in Perth, while site-based management is provided by East Kimberley College. Suitable applicants may be required to work collaboratively and maintain strong skilled relationships with the East Kimberley College Attendance and Engagement leadership team.

Suitable applicants should hold and maintain a current WA “C” class drivers’ licence as you may be required to attend schools, make home visits to meet with families and may be required to transport students.



You may be required to attend associated training, professional learning and school development days at SSEN:BE’s main school site which operates out of Statewide Services in Padbury and may involve travel across our school and regions. Additional training and screening may be required in this role to meet Justice requirements.
