Ready to take ownership of new business and play a key role in growing a specialist consultancy?

We’re partnering with a HR and customer experience consultancy, to find an ambitious Business Development Manager who knows how to open doors, uncover genuine business challenges and turn conversations into commercial opportunities.

This is a true new business / hunter role. You’ll be responsible for creating opportunities across the two core service areas — Customer Experience & Sales Training and Fractional HR & People & Culture.

Reporting directly to the owner, you’ll have genuine autonomy, direct access to decision-makers and the opportunity to help shape growth.

What's On Offer?

$100K–$120K + Super (FTE) + Commission, depending on experience

Full-time or part-time flexibility, with potential to transition to full-time

Location: Bundoora, Melbourne

Genuine autonomy to build and own your BD strategy

Direct access to the owner, with mentorship and support

Sales tools and resources including LinkedIn Sales Navigator, AI tools, laptop and phone

Networking, interstate travel and occasional overseas opportunities

A small, entrepreneurial team where your contribution is highly visible

Long-term career progression into consulting, leadership or broader commercial roles

About Our Client: Our client is a growing consultancy that partners with small to medium-sized businesses to strengthen their people, HR and customer experience.

Their services include:

Customer Experience & Sales Training – call assessments, QA, coaching, training and customer experience improvement

HR & People & Culture – recruitment, onboarding, performance, compliance, employee relations and broader people strategy

They work with businesses that need additional expertise and support without necessarily having the need for a full internal HR or CX function.

About the Role As the Business Development Manager, your focus will be simple: create new opportunities and help grow the business.

You’ll identify prospective clients, build relationships with business owners and leadership teams, understand their challenges and connect them with the right solution.

You’ll have the freedom to build your own approach and leverage multiple channels, including:

Cold calling and outbound prospecting

LinkedIn and email outreach

Networking and industry events

In-person meetings

Referral and relationship-based business development

Existing networking partnerships and business communities

What You’ll Be Doing

Build and manage a strong pipeline of new SME and mid-market prospects

Identify and engage business owners, MDs, CEOs, CFOs and operational leaders

Generate new business across both HR/People & Culture and Customer Experience services

Run consultative discovery conversations to understand business challenges and pain points

Identify opportunities around people, performance, compliance, retention, customer experience and sales capability

Develop trusted relationships and position yourself as a credible commercial advisor

Convert prospects into meetings, proposals and new client engagements

Work closely with Luke to develop solutions, proposals and commercial opportunities

Attend networking events, industry functions and client meetings

Maintain consistent activity and momentum across your pipeline

Potentially participate in selected client engagements to deepen your understanding of the business and its services

What We’re Looking For We’re looking for someone with genuine drive, commercial hunger and a hunter mentality.

You’ll ideally have:

3+ years' experience in B2B business development or consultative sales

A proven ability to generate your own opportunities rather than relying solely on inbound leads

Experience selling into SME or mid-market businesses

Strong discovery and questioning skills

The ability to sell solutions rather than simply products or services

Confidence speaking with senior decision-makers and business owners

Strong commercial instincts and an understanding of ROI and business outcomes

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills

High emotional intelligence and the ability to build trust quickly

The resilience and persistence required for genuine current business development

A self-starting nature and the ability to work autonomously

Experience across HR, recruitment, People & Culture, training, consulting, customer experience or a related professional services environment would be highly regarded.

An HR qualification or recruitment background would also be a bonus, but commercial sales ability and the right mindset are the priority.

If you're a driven BDM who loves the hunt, thrives on building relationships and wants genuine ownership over your results, we'd love to hear from you.
