STEM in Schools Facilitator - First Nations Identified Position

DeadlyScience is seeking a passionate and community-connectedSTEM in Schools Facilitatorto join our NSW delivery team, based in the Hunter. This is an Aboriginal Identified Position and applicants must identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and be prepared to provide proof of Aboriginality upon appointment.

In this hands-on role, you will deliver engaging, culturally grounded STEM workshops directly to primary and secondary students across NSW, embedding Indigenous knowledge systems through a two-way learning approach. Working under the NSW STEM in Schools Program Manager, you will play a vital role in building student confidence, aspiration and connection to STEM, particularly for First Nations young people. This role requires extensive travel across NSW, including to regional and remote communities, with overnight stays necessary at times. A vehicle will be provided for regional and remote travel, and reasonable travel expenses will be covered. This role suits someone who thrives in the field, connects easily with young people and communities, and is passionate about the power of culturally responsive science education.

Key responsibilities and duties:

STEM in Schools Program Delivery:

- Deliver engaging, curriculum-aligned STEM workshops to primary and secondary schools across NSW
- Embed Indigenous knowledge systems through a two-way learning approach
- Adapt content to suit diverse learning environments and year levels
- Promote STEM pathways into tertiary study and careers for First Nations students

Community and School Engagement:

- Build strong, trust-based relationships with teachers, principals and local Aboriginal communities
- Represent DeadlyScience professionally in school and community settings
- Contribute to consultation processes to ensure resources reflect genuine community voice




- Support partnerships with universities, research institutions and industry where relevant

Program Operations and Continuous Improvement:

- Assist with planning, logistics and preparation for school delivery
- Collect and record program data and participant feedback
- Contribute to evaluation and continuous improvement of workshops and resources
- Participate in team meetings, supervision and career development activities

About You

You identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander (this is an Aboriginal Identified Position and proof of Aboriginality is required upon appointment)

- Experience in STEM education, youth engagement or community programs
- Demonstrated ability to deliver engaging, inclusive learning experiences to young people
- Experience in curriculum design or educational resource development
- Strong communication and organisational skills
- A valid unrestricted drivers license and willingness and capacity to travel extensively across NSW, including regional and remote areas
- A valid WWCC and Police Check or willingness to obtain
- Qualified primary or secondary science teacher

Please note

Appointment is subject to a valid NSW Working with Children Check, a National Police Check, and completion of mandatory child safety and cultural safety training. A six-month probation period applies.
