Diabetes and Endocrinology Research Fellow

This is a 12-month Part Time –

- Fixed Term position at 43 hours per fortnight commencing 1st February 2027.

Reference Template for download The Diabetes and Endocrinology service delivers world-leading clinical care, research and training. The service cares for inpatients and outpatients with a broad range of endocrine conditions, including diabetes, osteoporosis, pituitary disease and thyroid disease. We deliver expert diabetes clinical care and education to inpatients and outpatients of the hospital and the department has been recognised as an Australian Diabetes Society NADC accredited Diabetes Centre of Excellence.

Major clinical initiatives have occurred in the fields of Diabetes, Pituitary and Bone &

- Mineral Medicine. We are the first hospital in Australia to establish a networked blood glucose meter system across all inpatient areas which is automatically integrated with an electronic medical record. The department established Victoria's first multi-disciplinary Diabetes Foot Unit (DFU). The department is recognised as delivering state-of-the art perioperative care of patients undergoing pituitary surgery and also established a fracture-capture service to treat patients with bone disorders presenting to hospital with fractures.

The Department also partakes in an extensive investigator-driven and industry-driven clinical trials across all areas of diabetes and endocrinology.

The Role

Diabetes &

- Endocrinology Fellows are expected to work interactively with the multi-disciplinary team, to participate in teaching and research activities. There will be no after-hours on call.



The purpose of this role is to gain a breadth of experience and to participate in clinical trials involved in the areas diabetes and endocrinology and/or to participate in Outpatient Clinics.

This Includes

- Participate in clinical trial investigations and research, and quality activities of the Department.
- Clinical Trial Participant Consultations – performing clinical trial investigator tasks including physical examinations, following up referral and test results information, arrangement of diagnostic tests and communication with referring doctors and patients GP regarding continuing care and follow up.
- Collegiate discussion with other attending Endocrinologists regarding patient management.

About You

- General Registration with (or eligible for Registration) the Medical Board of Australia (AHPRA).
- Appropriate health tertiary qualifications –
- MBBS or equivalent.
- Commitment to live the Melbourne Way - putting people first, leading with kindness and achieving excellence together.
- Experience in managing a full range of acute endocrine disorders and emergencies.
- Experienced in managing a full range of chronic endocrine disorders including diabetes and osteoporosis.
- Good Clinical Practice certification at level of ICH R3.
- Training and/or supervision in endocrinology.
- Personal area of interest and commitment to clinical care and research.
- Experience in administering a clinical service and/or clinical research trial.
- Track record of attracting financial support for research and development activities.
