We have exciting opportunities for Apprentice Chefs to join our passionate culinary teams across Spicers Guesthouse (Éremo Restaurant) in Pokolbin, Hunter Valley, as well as The Convent and Circa 1876.
Whether you're eager to start your culinary journey or continue developing your skills as an apprentice, this is an exceptional opportunity to learn from experienced hospitality professionals in some of the region's most renowned dining venues. About Spicers Guesthouse
Spicers Guesthouse has a rich history in the heart of Australia's oldest wine region, the Hunter Valley. This iconic retreat blends classic charm with contemporary style, inspired by the natural beauty of its surroundings. Set within the property, Éremo Restaurant delivers a modern Italian dining experience, complemented by an extensive wine list featuring some of the Hunter Valley's finest vintages.
Guests can enjoy dining indoors or on the alfresco terrace overlooking the picturesque landscape.
About The Convent The Convent Hunter Valley is a beautifully restored boutique property known for its elegance and warm hospitality. Home to Circa 1876, one of the region's most celebrated restaurants, the venue is renowned for its seasonal, farm-to-table approach, showcasing the best local produce and estate-grown ingredients. Together, these venues offer a unique culinary environment focused on quality, creativity, and exceptional guest experiences.
The role and key duties
- Learn and develop practical culinary skills under the guidance of experienced Chefs and kitchen leaders;
- Assist with the preparation, cooking, and presentation of dishes across a variety of dining experiences, including restaurant service, functions, weddings, and special events;
- Follow recipes, kitchen procedures, and presentation standards to consistently deliver high-quality food;
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe kitchen environment in line with food safety and hygiene requirements;
- Work collaboratively with the wider kitchen team to deliver exceptional guest experiences;
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, strong work ethic, and eagerness to learn and grow within the hospitality industry;
- Contribute to a supportive and professional team culture while building the skills required to become a qualified Chef.
Essential criteria required to be considered
- Currently undertaking, or willing to commence, a Commercial Cookery Apprenticeship;
- Passion for food, hospitality, and building a long-term culinary career;
- Willingness to learn, take direction, and continually develop your skills and knowledge;
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced team setting;
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality;
- Availability to work a rotating roster, including evenings, weekends, and public holidays;
- Reliable transport to and from the property;
