We're seeking an
early-career Mechatronics Engineer
who is passionate about hands-on engineering and enjoys solving real-world problems.
Working alongside scientists and engineers, you'll contribute to early-stage engineering R&D; by designing, building and testing electromechanical systems that move rapidly from concept to validated prototype.
Key responsibilities include:
Designing, assembling and iterating mechanical, electronic and mechatronic prototypes
Creating CAD models, manufacturing drawings and technical documentation
Developing and executing laboratory and bench test plans, analysing data and documenting verification results
Supporting hardware design reviews and translating concepts into clear engineering specifications
Building automated test capability using scripting tools (e.g. Python) and developing embedded systems knowledge
Working safely within laboratory and biosecurity environments while maintaining rigorous documentation and traceability
Collaborating with internal researchers and supporting technical reviews of externally developed designs
We're looking for engineers with:
A degree in Mechatronics, Mechanical, Electrical or a related engineering discipline
Approximately 2–4 years' engineering experience (including internships, placements or graduate projects)
Practical experience with CAD, electromechanical assembly, wiring, debugging and prototype development
Strong technical documentation and problem-solving skills
An interest in verification & validation, product development and engineering for regulated or safety-critical environments
Work on engineering solutions with global public health impact.

Location & Working Arrangements
Location: Based in Clayton, Melbourne with a flexible hybrid working model.
Global Collaboration: As a global organisation, candidates will need to demonstrate flexibility to accommodate occasional meetings outside standard Melbourne business hours.
