Primary objective

As part of the school leadership team, provide educational leadership and management and implement departmental and school based policies and programs to achieve optimal educational outcomes for students.

Context statement

Milingimbi School is on an island situated 440km east of Darwin. Milingimbi School has a predominantly indigenous student population of approximately 320 from early years to senior secondary. The school also provides education services to two

Homeland Learning Centres.



The school’s vision is to create teaching and learning in both Djambarrpuyngu and English that generates enthusiasm for learning, realising competence in literacy, numeracy and wellbeing for cross cultural environments.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Ensure the delivery of quality teaching and learning programs across the school that align to evidence based research,

whole school approaches and effective pedagogies that meet the needs of students.
1. Lead the implementation and alignment of school based policies and procedures with departmental policy through

effective leadership and positive partnerships with the school and community.
1. Provide leadership across the school in the implementation and review of action plans, school policy, procedures and

strategic and improvement planning to achieve improved educational outcomes in partnership with the school and local community.
1. Ensure high expectations for student learning and school improvement are set and maintained across the school
2. Contribute to and lead the development and implementation of curriculum and assessment plans and procedures in line

with Departmental policy to meet student needs.

Lead professional learning for teaching teams embedding the teaching of Yolngu Matha in literacy and teaching and

learning programs across the curriculum.

Selection criteria

Essential

1. Registration with the NT Teacher Registration Board and current Working with Children Clearance Notice (Ochre Card).
2. Demonstrated experience and educational leadership in effectively leading and collaborating with colleagues and

parents from various cultural and socio-economic groupings to maximise student wellbeing and achieve educational outcomes for students.
1. Applicant’s work history and performance demonstrates the knowledge to implement evidence based programmes,

school improvement agendas, the Australian Curriculum, assessment, moderation and reporting processes that align to departmental policies and guidelines within a bilingual ESL Indigenous school context.
1. Identifies issues and takes appropriate action to achieve the goals of the School’s Operational Plan.
2. Ability to communicate and interact effectively with people in cross-cultural and remote contexts.
