AV Technician / Sales & Customer Service – Casual

JP Light & Sound is looking for another great person to join our team as we head into our busiest time of year.

This is not a traditional single-purpose role. Depending on your experience, strengths and availability, you could work across AV and event production, sales, customer service, admin and inventory.

It could be particularly well suited to someone already working within the AV or events industry who wants to pick up additional shifts around their existing work. Equally, if your strengths are customer service, sales and organisation, there is scope to become more involved in that side of our business.

We're not expecting every applicant to tick every box. You might be a skilled AV operator who can walk into a show and know exactly what you're doing. You might be excellent with customers and naturally good at turning an enquiry into the right solution. You might have some industry experience, a strong work ethic and be keen to learn more.

If you can do a bit of everything, even better. The more you can bring to the role, the more opportunities we can provide.

What the role could involve

Depending on the day and where your strengths lie, you could be:

- Answering phone and email enquiries and helping customers plan their hire or event
- Preparing quotes, assisting with bookings and recommending suitable equipment or services
- Serving customers collecting and returning hire equipment
- Booking equipment in and out through our hire management system
- Preparing equipment for upcoming hires and productions
- Checking, testing and putting away returned equipment
- Assisting our inventory team during busy periods
- Loading, setting up and packing down audio, lighting, staging, truss, vision and other event equipment
- Working as part of the crew on larger events and productions
- Operating audio, lighting or vision equipment where you have the appropriate experience
- Mixing live bands if that's within your skill set
- Working independently on suitable jobs once you've demonstrated the required experience and capability

There genuinely isn't a typical day. One shift might be spent answering enquiries and serving customers from our Norwood warehouse. The next could involve preparing a large production, and the next could have you onsite as part of an event crew.

Sales & Customer Service For the customer-facing side of the role, we're looking for more than someone who simply processes whatever a customer asks for.

People often contact us knowing the outcome they want,



but not necessarily what equipment or services they need to achieve it.

We want someone who is willing to ask questions, understand the event, make useful recommendations and build a relationship with the customer.

You don't need to know our entire inventory on day one. We can teach you our products, systems and the kinds of solutions we provide. What is harder to teach is being attentive, personable, commercially minded and genuinely wanting to help a customer get the right result.

AV & Technical Experience

Previous AV, events or production experience is highly regarded, particularly if you have experience with live audio, mixing bands, lighting, vision, staging, event production or professional AV equipment.

If you're already an experienced operator who can be trusted to head out and run a suitable job independently, that's extremely useful to us and can open up additional technical work quickly.

However, being an expert operator isn't a requirement for every part of this role.

If you have some relevant experience, a good technical mindset and the right attitude, we're happy to train and develop the right person.

Likewise, if you're stronger in sales, admin and customer service than you are behind a mixing console, we'd still like to hear from you.

The Person We're Looking For

More than anything, we're looking for someone with a strong work ethic, positive mindset and can-do attitude.

You'll need to be reliable, friendly with customers and comfortable working as part of a team. You'll also need to be willing to get stuck in when there is work to be done rather than thinking something is outside your .

Problem-solving ability is important. The events industry regularly throws unexpected problems at you, so being technically minded, practical or generally handy is a big advantage.

You should also be physically capable of the lifting and hands-on work involved in moving and setting up event equipment.

A current driver's licence is essential, and flexible availability is highly regarded. Some event work takes place at night and on weekends, although the role also includes plenty of weekday work.

Hours & Pay

This is a casual position with variable hours, generally around 5–30 hours per week depending on workload,



your availability and the type of work you're capable of undertaking.

There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours each week.

That flexibility is intentional. If you're already doing freelance or casual work within AV and events and have gaps in your week that you'd like to fill, that can work very well for us.

Casual rates start from approximately $37 per hour for applicable weekday work.

Experienced staff undertaking technical/operations work may attract rates of approximately $47–$55 per hour, depending on the work and responsibilities involved.

Applicable penalty and overtime rates apply for nights, weekends and extended hours, with some shifts attracting rates of up to approximately $67 per hour.

We're heading into peak event season now, so it's a great opportunity to get your foot in the door, work some shifts with the team and show us what you can do.

For the right person, there is also scope for the position to develop beyond peak season, particularly as opportunities become available within our admin, sales and customer service team.

JP Light & Sound is an Adelaide-based event production and equipment hire company operating from Norwood.

We provide audio, lighting, staging, truss, vision, DJ equipment and special effects across everything from equipment hire and weddings through to corporate events, festivals and larger productions.
