South Yarra | Specialty Coffee + New York-Style Bagels | Part time

At Lumen Alley, we’re a small neighbourhood café that cares deeply about quality, thoughtful hospitality and doing business in a way that treads lightly on the planet.

We’re looking for a Barista / Café All-Rounder who takes ownership, notices the little things and genuinely cares about doing things well.

We’re not necessarily looking for the person with the longest résumé or the fanciest latte art. Experience is important, but so are initiative, reliability, attention to detail and the ability to learn quickly.

The role

You’ll work closely with the owners and be involved across the café, including:

- Preparing specialty coffee and drinks consistently to our standards
- Dialling in espresso and maintaining quality throughout the day
- Greeting customers, taking orders and providing warm, genuine service
- Assembling our New York-style bagels and assisting with food prep
- Opening and/or closing duties
- Keeping the café clean, organised and well stocked
- Following food safety, cleaning and operational procedures
- Jumping in wherever the team needs support

Who we're looking for

You’re someone who

- Has barista/café experience and is confident dialling in espresso
- Learns quickly and retains what you’ve been taught
- Takes initiative rather than waiting to be asked
- Is reliable, punctual and organised
- Notices the little things and takes pride in doing things properly
- Stays calm and focused when things get busy
- Communicates warmly and confidently with customers
- Is comfortable with food prep, cleaning and the less glamorous parts of café work
- Takes feedback well and genuinely wants to improve




- Enjoys being part of a small team where everyone helps each other

You’re the kind of person who notices the milk fridge is running low and refills it, resets your station before moving on, and if you make a mistake, learns from it rather than making the same mistake again. Specialty coffee experience is preferred, but attitude and learning ability matter to us just as much as years of experience. We can teach our recipes, workflow and systems. What matters most is that you want to learn and become someone the team can rely on.
