Job details The Business Engagement and Design Section within the Digital and Service Delivery Branch of DFAT’s Information Management and Technology Division, has a requirement for multiple ICT labour-hire resources to fill the role of Business Analyst. Candidates must have relevant industry certifications and experience in the field. A proven record of accomplishment in the analysis and design of successful business outcomes and strong client engagement is essential.

Demonstrable experience in producing a range of BA artefacts is required including business and functional and non-functional requirements documents, user stories, business and systems rules analysis and mapping, BPMN models, and benefits articulation and measurement. Data modelling experience is desirable. Strong customer engagement and management, along with the ability to work collaborative with a range of stakeholders is key to these roles.

Analysts must have excellent communication skills and be able to work with business, technical staff including testers, developers, and architects, and management stakeholders to be effective. Candidates must be innovative thinkers, thrive in an environment of rapid change, continuous improvement and be passionate about delivering real business perks. Project approaches may vary from waterfall to iterative development leveraging Scrum, Kanban, model driven design and similar tools and methods for delivery.





These roles are critical to project success as they inform project scope and planning. Successful candidates are expected to work in a collaborative way using standardised approaches and templates across the IT Division with all products published on the division’s collaboration platform and records management tool, experience with products such as DevOps and building requirements traceability for projects is highly desirable.

Responsibilities

- Defines and manages scoping, requirements definition and prioritisation activities for initiatives of medium size and complexity.
- Contributes to selecting the requirements approach.
- Facilitates input from stakeholders, provides constructive challenge and enables effective prioritisation of requirements.
- Establishes requirements base-lines, obtains formal agreement to requirements, and ensures traceability to source.
- Applies standard data modelling and design techniques based upon a detailed understanding of requirements.
- Investigates business situations where there is some complexity and ambiguity.

- BPMN Fundamentals (with extension courses desirable) or equivalent

About the project The Business Analyst role in the Business Engagement and Design Section is responsible for delivering against the outcomes of the Business Analysis function and practice for the Information Management and Technology Division. As part of the Digital and Service Delivery Branch, this position plays a critical role in defining and articulating business needs, processes, and requirements leveraging a range of tools and techniques (i.e. business rules mapping to legislation, business process modelling (BPMN)) that enable an effective interchange between business stakeholders and technology teams.
