The Opportunity CARE Australia (part of CARE International) is an international aid organisation working to defeat global poverty by supporting women to create lasting change in their communities around the world. We are seeking a Business Development Lead to strengthen CARE Australia’s institutional funding performance through strategic positioning, high-quality proposal development and robust business development approaches.
What you’ll do:
As Business Development Lead, you will be responsible for:
- Providing strategic direction on donor engagement, relationship building and funding approaches across Country Offices and partners.
- Leading or overseeing complex, high-value and priority funding opportunities from positioning through submission.
- Building relationships with key stakeholders and supporting partnership and commercial arrangements for selected bids.
- Ensuring proposals are competitive, evidence-based, compliant and aligned with donor requirements and CARE’s strategic priorities.
- Improving proposal development systems, tools and templates, while coaching teams to strengthen resource mobilisation capability.

About You To be successful in this role you will bring:
- Bachelor degree in International Development / Studies or equivalent experience preferred
- Extensive experience in institutional resource mobilisation, proposal development and donor engagement within the international development or humanitarian sector.
- Demonstrated experience leading or providing strategic oversight for complex institutional funding proposals, preferably for DFAT, MFAT, FCDO, UN agencies, multilateral development banks or comparable donors.
- Robust understanding of institutional donor funding mechanisms, compliance requirements, procurement approaches and proposal quality standards.
- Experience leading proposal design and partnership development, and collaborating with Country Offices, local partners, consortium members or geographically dispersed teams.
- Strong strategic judgement, project management, influencing and written communication skills, with the ability to coach others and deliver quality work under tight deadlines.
