Role

We are hiring a carbon composites technician to build hydrofoil boards at Lucid Glassing in Ballina, NSW. You will work on vacuum-bagged carbon and epoxy foilboards, from laminate layup through to finished, inspected boards.

Lucid Glassing is a premium glassing factory on the Northern NSW coast. We build small-batch carbon foilboards for Amos Shapes and for collaborating brands, so the volume is modest, the tolerances are tight and every board is checked before it leaves. This is a full-time, salaried, in office role in Ballina.

Key responsibilities

You will own the hands-on build of carbon foilboards, working from the shaper's and designer's specifications.

- Cut and lay up carbon fibre and core materials to the schedule for each board model, keeping fibre orientation and laminate weight to spec.
- Mix and apply epoxy resin, and run vacuum bagging and curing cycles.
- Fit and bond internal components such as foil track boxes, leash plugs, air vents and reinforcement in the correct positions.
- Trim, sand and finish moulded boards, and check them against dimensions, weight and cosmetic standards before dispatch.
- Keep the workshop safe and clean: PPE, resin and dust handling, extraction, waste disposal and tool care.
- Give feedback to the shaping and design team when a build issue or a repeat defect points to a change in the design or process.

Skills and experience: Two things are essential: experience in foilboard or surfboard production, and hands-on experience working with carbon fibre, epoxy resin and other composite materials.
- Practical experience laying up carbon fibre with epoxy, ideally with vacuum bagging or vacuum infusion.
- Comfortable reading a build schedule and working to weights, dimensions and tolerances.
- Good hand skills and a careful eye for finish,



including sanding and surface preparation.
- Consistent, methodical working habits, with the discipline to record what you did on each board.
- Able to work safely with epoxy, carbon dust and workshop equipment, and willing to follow PPE and extraction procedures.
- Reliable and punctual, able to work independently and as part of a small team. Must honest and trustworthy.
- Based in, or willing to relocate to, the Ballina area. Right to work in Australia is required.
- Driver's licence and reliable transport to the factory.

Nice to have:
- Experience building all kinds of watercraft.
- Familiarity with core materials such as EPS or PVC foam, Carbon, Epoxy, Fibreglass etc.
- Experience with CNC-cuts, moulds and composite tooling.
- Working knowledge of foiling, including prone, SUP, parawing or Foil Drive assist, so you understand how the boards are used.
- A experience/ trade or composites qualification, or a boatbuilding background will be a great asset when applying for this position.

What we offer
- Full-time, salaried position at the Lucid Glassing factory in Ballina, NSW. 38 hrs per week.

- A small team where the people building the boards are riders and designing the boards, and riders who test them.
- Some training on our construction methods for the right person, but some experience is necessary.
- A coastal Northern NSW location close to foiling and surf breaks.
