About the Role

n

We are seeking an experienced Site H&S; Rep to support the installation of tunnel ventilation systems.

n

Acting as site H&S; rep across 3 station construction sites, you'll provide to the construction team an independent oversight, knowledge center, and a client point of contact.

n

You will be working across 3 underground stations.

n

Duties & Responsibilities

n

Site WHS Management

n

n
- Promote and maintain a strong WHS culture across all site activities.
n
- Conduct regular site inspections and proactively identify hazards and unsafe conditions.
n
- Monitor compliance with the project's WHS management plan, procedures and client requirements.
n
- Provide practical WHS advice to the Project Manager, Site Supervisors, engineers and subcontractors.
n
- Challenge unsafe work practices and intervene where immediate action is required.
n
- Review and provide input into SWMS, JHAs, risk assessments and method statements prior to commencement of works.
n
- Identify high-risk activities associated with the installation of tunnel ventilation equipment and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.
n
- Participate in pre-starts, toolbox talks and task-specific risk reviews.
n
- Monitor changes to work activities and ensure risks are reassessed when site conditions or methodologies change.
n
- Verify that control measures remain effective throughout the works.
n

Mechanical Installation Safety

n

n
- Monitor safe execution of installation activities including:
n
- ventilation fans and associated equipment
n
- ductwork and supports
n
- dampers and attenuators
n
- access platforms and walkways
n
- mechanical plant and lifting operations
n




- electrical/mechanical equipment installation
n
- Ensure appropriate controls are implemented for manual handling, pinch/crush points, suspended loads, dropped objects and temporary works.
n

n

Underground / Station Setting

n

n
- Monitor hazards associated with working in underground environments.
n
- Ensure appropriate controls for access/egress, ventilation, emergency response, lighting, communications and interaction with other contractors.
n
- Monitor housekeeping and maintenance of safe access routes.
n
- Coordinate with the principal contractor and other work packages where activities interface.
n

Working at Heights & Lifting

n

n
- Monitor compliance with working-at-height requirements, including scaffolds, EWPs, ladders and temporary platforms.
n
- Verify lifting plans, exclusion zones and controls for cranes, hoists and other lifting equipment.
n
- Monitor rigging and dogging activities and ensure suspended-load controls are maintained.
n
- Identify and control dropped-object risks.
n

Electrical / Commissioning Safety

n

n
- Monitor electrical safety and isolation/LOTO requirements during installation, testing and commissioning.
n
- Ensure appropriate controls are in place for energisation and commissioning activities.
n
- Participate in commissioning risk assessments and permit-to-work processes.
n
- Coordinate WHS requirements associated with mechanical and electrical interfaces.
n
- Monitor subcontractor compliance with project WHS requirements.
n




- Review subcontractor documentation and ensure workers are appropriately inducted and competent for their tasks.
n
- Participate in subcontractor pre-starts and coordination meetings.
n
- Follow up corrective actions and ensure close-out within agreed timeframes.
n
- Escalate persistent or serious non-compliance to the Project Manager.
n
- Assist with investigation of incidents, near misses and hazards.
n
- Ensure incidents are reported, investigated and corrective actions implemented.
n
- Participate in emergency response planning and drills.
n
- Maintain awareness of emergency access, evacuation routes, first aid and rescue arrangements.
n

Inspections, Audits & Reporting

n

n
- Conduct routine WHS inspections and audits.
n
- Maintain records of observations, inspections, incidents and corrective actions.
n
- Track outstanding WHS actions through to close-out.
n
- Prepare regular WHS reports for the Project Manager and project management team.
n
- Identify trends and recommend improvements.
n

n

Worker Engagement

n

n
- Encourage workers to report hazards, near misses and safety concerns.
n
- Facilitate toolbox talks and safety briefings where required.
n
- Engage directly with workers to understand practical safety issues.
n
- Promote consultation and participation in WHS matters.
n

n

About You

n

n
- At least Cert IV in Work Health and Safety (or equivalent)
n
- Minimum of 5 years' practical/hands-on WHS experience in construction, preferably major civil/infrastructure projects, together with demonstrated knowledge of NSW WHS legislation, risk management, incident investigation, construction safety systems and subcontractor management.
